Lena,

I've read through most of the posts on this thread but only after reading this post of yours did I realize that nizoral is for reducing the loss while nioxin is for regrowth.

So I think nizoral is a good start for me but only if its okay while ttc.

Thanks for all the info ladies.

Pretty much, any drugstore. Look in the dandruff shampoo section. It's a smallish, flatish blue bottle.

They also sell it at Wal Mart. Keep in mind though, if you have severe hair loss, this will not work for you and your best bet is a combination of Nizoral shampoo and Rogaine (men's strength).

Just in case no one has posted this info, the Nioxin website says that it is made with all-natural ingredients and does not enter the bloodstream, so it is safe to use while ttc and while pregnant, and can even be used by children.

I went out and bought some Nioxin last night. Used it this morning. Didn't notice any tingling on my scalp, but I did managed to tingle the hell out of the back of my neck, since my hair is long and managed to rub it all over. So I guess the good news there is that I won't be losing any neck hairs for a while.

Just curious, do any of you use the Nioxin Scalp Treatment?
I tried to buy the full set last night and the hair stylist told me not to bother with the Scalp Treatment, that it was worthless and that she didn't agree with it. I ended up walking out with just the Nioxin Cleanser and Scalp Therapy.

Also, do any of you use it on a daily basis? She told me to only use it every other day, but I have to wash my hair every morning, otherwise it gets all gross. Is it safe to alternate with something else, like Pantene or whatever?

This whole hair loss thing really sucks.

From what I know it doesn't work right away (give it a month or two to see if Nioxin is working). Also wondering if you are shampooing, massaging it in to your scalp and leaving it on for 3-5min? You should feel the tingling. I believe the conditioner asks you to do the same.

I bought the scalp treatment and it makes your scalp tingle and makes it a big easier to comb your hair through. Also works kind of like a hair spray, making your hair slightly stiff and giving it some volume if you blow dry. Don't know if it works or not.

I have been using mine for a month now. I notice less hair is falling out. I see a few sprouts by my parting but I think it's too early to say. I used regular shampoo and a deep conditioner one day for my dry ends and the next day, I noticed my hair didn't lather that well with Nioxin and noticed a few hairs were falling out but nothing crazy. Keep it up and you should see results.

I've tried Nioxin for a couple of days, however, it makes my hair feel dirty and greasy? I really don't have trouble with an over oily scalp, but I noticed that the Nioxin does not lather up at all for me and makes it hard to distribute throughout my hair. While I know it is all rinsed out, my hair feels extremely hard and greasy at the top and back and back of my scalp. Has anyone else noticed this? My hair loss isn't at an extreme value yet so I wanted to use this shampoo to gain back some of the loss and to hopefully slow/prevent future loss. Would Nizoral be a better choice?

I would strongly urge you to AVOID using Nizoral (or any shampoo, really) anywhere near your genitals. I imagine that it would be extremely irritating and probably painful. Besides, pubic hair is not the product of excess testosterone.

Default hair loss

Okay, so I had a baby two and a half months ago, and my hormones must be going crazazy!!!! My hair is coming out by the handfull when I wash, brush, etc. I am worried if it keeps up like this, I am going to be completely bald... It did get very thick while I was pregnant, but it can't keep falling out like this! I am also having SEVERe acne probs. It got bad during my pregnancy, but now it is even worse...

Ugh! I tried the Nizoral but went through a whole small bottle in a week and a half...(every other day) do you guys think I should get on some meds, or will the shampoo work for me?

If your hair loss is severe and you wanna keep the rest of the hair you have, I recommend getting on Rogaine ASAP.
