It did get very thick while I was pregnant, but it can't keep falling out like this! I am also having SEVERe acne probs. It got bad during my pregnancy, but now it is even worse...

Ugh! I tried the Nizoral but went through a whole small bottle in a week and a half...(every other day) do you guys think I should get on some meds, or will the shampoo work for me?
I wouldn't fool around with Nizoral if your hair loss is that severe. You should really start using Rogaine if you don't wanna end up like me. Same thing happened to me and I had put so much faith in Nioxin, Nizoral, and other products that simply did not preserve my hair. I am now stuck with wearing wigs forever until I get my hair transplant.

Nizoral can work for people with mild hair loss but once you start losing patches and start noticing a dramatic difference in hair loss, it's time for something stronger.

I was taking Rogaine (men's strength) and it did regrow some of what I had lost. However, i waited absolutely too long to start it and it didn't give me the results I had hoped for. My dermatologist told me that had i started when i first noticed the handfuls of hair falling out, it would have worked so much better. Rogaine seems to work because of its vasodilator properties. DHT shrinks and chokes follicles, and Rogaine seems to combat this by swelling the follicle's tiny microvascular structures.

Recently I went back to the dermatologist and he said there is nothing else left for me to do and that I am a perfect candidate for a hair transplant. I'm sick of investing so much money in wigs and just wish I would have done something a lot sooner instead of wasting my time and money with these shampoos.

There have been a small amount of women who have been prescribed propecia - this works very well but you can not take it if you are TTC. Matter of fact, some DR's won't even prescribe it if you don't have your tubes tied and there is a small chance you can become pregnant.

For women it is recommended that they take Rogaine and the men's strength works the best. If you use Rogaine, you can also use a DHT removing shampoo such as nioxin. It's very important to use a shampoo which removes DHT from the scalp so that it does not bind to your hair follicles. The buildup of DHT is the reason that we experience the hair loss that we do. Some hair follicles slowly shrink and die in the presence of DHT. This causes 95% of all hair loss.

When I was in Germany I started using Pantostin - it contains Alfatradiol and it regrew back so much of my hair! however, once I got here, it started falling back out because Alfatradiol has not been approved by the FDA in the USA and therefore is not on the market here. Sucks, huh? I had finally found a product that worked and was available at the pharmacy over the counter, but now that I am here, it's not available here.

Anyhow, if you are really worried about your hair loss, i really think you should have a dermatologist evaluate your scalp. This way you can get the best advice and prevent ending up with a huge bald spot like i now have.

Is your hair loss more on top or where is it? Mine is on top and fell out in the same area where men have their hair loss.

I agree with what you said but excess testosterone can cause the pubic hair to grow a bit heavier than normal. When i first went to a reproductive endocrinologist to find out why I wasn't pregnant after trying for 6 years, one of the things he asked me was if I had hair growth in the pubic region similar to a man. He said that the excess testosterone can cause it to be more thicker and grow a bit wilder LOL. Perhaps the person who asked this question is having that problem. I recommend a depilatory which can be used in the pubic area.

I have been using nioxin type 4 shampoo and conditioner. I also alternate this with Nizoral Shampoo and use it 2 a week. I have been using nioxin for 2 months now and Nizoral for about a week. So far it seems to be working. I have tiny hairs everywhere and 2 people have commented on my hair as well so it seems to be growing and have less fall out in the shower.

OK, Im not sure if this is the right place to post. BUt I just got off with the nurse after complaining from sudden hair loss since starting Provera to induce period (4 weeks ago). Although, she would not go into further details, she said that in some cases hair loss has been reported. I will go in tomorrow to meet with RE, I am so upset!! I refuse to take Provera again!@!!

I just got Nioxin today and I am so excited to try it. For those of you who live near a Trade Secret-keep an eye out-they often have specials where you receive a free product w/ purchase. When I went in today they had a deal where you purchased a medium sized cleanser and got a free thickening spray. I got a cleanser and conditioner package w/ free scalp treatment for $34.95. The bottles are fair sized, not too small and after a lot of math it turned out to be a great deal for the ounces I got.

Have been using the Nioxin (system 1) for almost a month and a half now. At first, I was using both the shampoo and conditioner every morning, but I noticed that the conditioner seemed to really weigh my hair down. About two weeks ago, I started using the conditioner once every 3 or 4 days and still use the shampoo every morning.

Between that and the medication that I'm on, I've noticed the shedding decrease dramatically. I've gone from losing about 50 hairs in the shower every morning (on top of another 50 to 100 during combing/styling, plus the regular hairs that fall out during the course of the day) to losing about 5 tops.

It took a little over a month for me to really see any difference, so anyone trying this for the first time - give it a little time and try and stick it out.

I bought some Nizoral yesterday and am going to start rotating that into my hair washing schedule (using the Nizoral one day and the Nioxin the next). Now that I seem to have gotten a handle on the shedding, the next goal is to try and grow back what was lost.

Get involved in animal rescue. You won't be sorry. Your heart may break, there may be times when your eyes are red-rimmed for days. You may lose faith in the goodness of people, but your spirit will be renewed by the resilience of those you save. It isn't easy, but it's worth it. I promise you, you will be forever changed.

Hello,

What is the difference between Nioxin and Nizoral? Is it not enough to just use one of them? Would be grateful to hear more...

many thanks xx

Nizoral is medicated (it's intended to be used as an anti-fungal, but it also binds to DHT receptors, or inhibits DHT, or something to that effect). Nioxin is not medicated. It is designed to get your scalp into better condition, removing sebum (a oily/waxy medium that stores DHT on the scalp). Personally, I use a Nioxin shampoo and conditioner knock-off most days, and Nizoral (with Nioxin conditioner) on the weekends (I'm not comfortable using medication daily). I feel like Nioxin and Nizoral both do a good job of removing oil from my scalp and my hair does seem thicker - I have been using Nizoral since December and Nioxin for a couple of months. I like the combo, personally. The cheap-o Nioxin is only 6-7 bucks a bottle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldness_treatments

-Minoxidil, Propecia and Nizoral seem to work on most people.
-The lack of Iron in your body is a factor to thinning hair. Take daily vitamin pills such as Centrum or any company.
-Saw Pallemetto in your body can help inhibit testosterone from becoming DHT
-Exercise and Diet seems to help you from thinning hair

From this thread, Nioxin seems to be a good choice as well.

I am currently using Rogaine and Nizoral and have mild thinning hair. I noticed Rogaine giving me more hair and preventing hair loss. But let's see if I can get thicker hair with Nizoral.
