Question no af, not sure how to induce it to get some kind of cycle.

hi all
just thought i would try picking everyones brain. I have had the full pcos since 1998. diag in 2000. I had a dd in 1998 natually, no pcos major prolems before then, just pco doctor thinks due to major abdo pains for years and no other pcos sypmtoms.
I had a ds thanks to clomid, reflexology and chinese herbs in april 2002. This was without the slightest hint of any af as the clinic i went to said it was okay to start a new cycle without af as long as blood tests were taken to asess hormone levels. Before he was born i was lucky if i had 3 af a year. Then when he was 6 months i took some agnus castus as i had no af since he was born and pcos symptoms were really bad. I started af a week later and it last a very heavy 4 months.(i came off the agnus castus as soon as af arrived). It did stop breifly for 3 weeks during that time thanks to provera.
Anyway I came off the provera in Jan and have had no af since. I am trying to diet, so far loosing 14 pounds.
My endocrinologist thought that the metformin might regulate my cycle, but it hasn't. i have been on that since november last year.
does anyone have any advice on what i should maybe try to get any form of cycle back? or should i wait until August when i see him next and get reffered back to the fertility clinic for blood tests to see if my body is doing anything other than hibernating?
thanks

Hi Vickie,

Many people here use Vitex. I am using Black Cohosh which seems to be similar. Both of them adjust your hormones up or down as needed. I believe there are a few other things people use as well. You might like to look back through posts.

I had started using the Black Cohosh just a couple of days before being diagnosed with PCOS (and finding this site) and it has worked really well for me. I had been having really irregular AF for years, and when I started using it I had been having one for 6-7 weeks. The day I was diagnosed, I also had an IUD taken out. I had a really heavy bleed for the next two weeks (from having the IUD out) then it stopped really cleanly (I believe from the Black Cohosh) and I had a really good cycle after that - I even O'd. The only thing that could be improved was the length of the Luteal Phase (6 days), but it was only the first good cycle so I'm sure that will lengthen out.

HTH

Hi
thank for the info. Is VITEX the same as Agnus Castus? I am not 100% sure if I could get vitex locally here. I have heaps of Agnus Castus as I bought it thinking that it would help. Perhaps it was just a coincidence that when I took a few days of it I bled for 4 months
I am a llitle lost a how long I should take the meds. Do you take it every day, or certain days?
thanks

Yeah, I just did a search on agnus castus and it turns out that it is vitex It could well be that it was a coincidence that you bled for 4 months if you only took it for a few days. Other people here have said it can take 3 months or more to work - depending how much repair work it needs to do.
