Default No blood work while on Met??

My dr has me on 750 mg of Metformin ER. I'm suppose to take it 2x a day but I'm only doing 1x a day and might work my way up to 2x a day. Shouldn't my dr be doing blood tests while I'm on met??? Is anyone else taking met and not getting any blood work done?

My gyn said in young healthy women she doesn't usually test liver function while on Met. She suggested that I let my primary care physician test my glucose and any other areas of concern (my cholesterol and trigylcerides were borderline high when they tested for PCOS). That's why I think it might be better to be treated by an Endocrinologist who deals with all that, but I haven't asked either of my doctors to be referred to one yet.
    Dx November 2004
    Met 1500 mg
Atenolol 25 mg & Hyzaar 50/12.5 for BP
    Vaniqa cream 2X daily
Topical Clindamycin for folliculitis and rosacea
Weight loss since diagnosis - 28 pounds

My endocrinologist tested before the prescriptions and does follow up blood work every 4 months. I just had my first checkup and am waiting for the results. I would assume you would need retested in a few months to see if it's working at the dosage you're taking...

    New Year's fitness Celebration:
In 2006 I cycled approximately 1800miles, hiked up 4 mountains, took a walking tour of San Francisco, hiked in 4 california national parks, swam in a pool with palm trees on my birthday, hiked and biked along the Oregon Coast, climbed to numerous breathtaking waterfalls, explored a gold mine, a silver mine and a cinnabar mine, and walked a fantastic loop along frozen streams and icecicle waterfalls at Opal Creek in winter.

My doctor runs blood work every 6 to 8 weeks, including the liver.

I'm on 1000mg and get a blood test to test everything every 3/4 months.

I have blood work done every 3 months as well. You SHOULD have blood work done every 3 to 4 months, even if you are young and otherwise healthy.
