Question no drugs

Hello,

I am new to this site and think it is really great. Have been reading several messages "to catch up". However everyone seems to be on some sort of medication. Has anyone found a reduction in hair growth from a strict diet??? I am rather reluctant to take anything plus I have not been diagnosed so it will be at least 6-9 months before I get an appointment even if I am referred. Had a dreadful experience with the last (2nd doctor I asked about PCOS) doctor. I was a bit embarassed to talk about it so I asked him first for a prescription for 2 other allergies I have. When I got round to asking what I could do about the hair growth - he said "nothing". "We could test you but then there is no cure." So I sat saying - "well if there is not cure is there any point in testing me?", at which point he marched over to the door and opened it and said "really I have to get on". I was so embarassed and mad. I wrote a letter to the surgery and they wrote back he was perfectly within his rights and I should not have gone to him with 3 problems in one appointment and that I was taking up too much time. They refused to change my doctor and told me to go elsewhere. Since hen I always request the lady doctor but haven't got round to discussing it with her yet. Also I forgot to add that the stupid man started blushing when I started talking about facial hair - either that or he was getting red with anger that I was holding him up. Am so glad to have found this site - but disappointed that a strict diet doesn't seem to work for the hair problem. Was hoping to avoid medication.

Hi Omak
Welcome to Soulcysters!

I'm so sorry you had such a rotten appointment with your doctor, my first gp diagnosed me, but then said "Have a couple of holidays, it'll take a while to get pg" end of story! A tip on this one - in my surgery if you go for a smear you book a double appointment, so after I had my miscarriage I wanted to talk to my gp, but didn't want to be rushed, so I booked a double appointment. The receptionist assumed it was for a smear and I explained to my gp why I needed extra time. I wouldn't do this for just anything, but if you feel you want to discuss a few things it might be an idea.

It wasn't till I got my pc and found this site that I realised that more could be done.

I've only just started Clomid, before that I was not on any meds at all. I'm afraid I can't really advise you on that one. The hair thing is really embarrasing. I recently had a an appointment with a fertilty consultant and he started asking all about the hair in front of my dh and a student - he wanted to know it ALL!!!! That was embarrasing, but to him it was routine. Your doc shouldn't be embarassed to discuss any condition with you - it's his job and there will always have been someone worse. Although you can't change your doc, you can always go to someone else in the practice.

Anyway - best of luck, be sure to ask all your questions and check out the "hair" forum too.

Love
Deeds
