Default no hunger ..

Hi guys -

I started taking Metformin ER a week ago (1000mg/day) and these past few days I've had NO hunger at all. Nothing sounds good to me and I'm not FEELING hungry either. I do eat because I know I need to eat and if I don't then I crash and feel sick.

I see a lot of people with increased hunger but not so much decreased. I will be upping my dosage of Met tomorrow to 2000mg and I think this will get worse.

Seriously though, I'm very obese and it's just strange to not feel hungry. I don't mind per se, just need to know if this is something I'll have to work through.

I'm also craving a lot of sugary foods (not diabetic) and when I eat, I'm not eating good but I'm losing weight so overall I'm just confused.

Ohh, quick question, I have been losing more hair over the last year than normal so my hair tends to be thin on top - will my hair stop falling out so much once the Met gets in my system?

Thanks!
Tracey

My appetite is nothing like it used to be before I was on Met. I've never got my appetite back properly and I accept this as a blessing - it means I'm not continually going to the kitchen and eating anything and everything, I have to conciously make choices about what I am going to eat because I have to make the effort to eat.
Now, after being on Met for so long I do get hungry around meal times but not to the extent I used to between meals. I consider it a clean slate from which to start a healthy diet from!
All the best!

Actually, in the leaflet that comes with my Met, loss of appetite is mentioned as one of the side effects. I certainly had that when I started taking Met. Now I am at 2500 mg, and things are back to "normal". My appetite has come back, but having said that, I am now on a strict diet with few carbs and lots of veg and protein, and I found that I generally eat less now. Guess my body got used to it - and I consider it a blessing.

Met diminished my appetite, but I count it as a blessing. I can't eat as much at mealtimes, and I'm not craving "junk" like I always used to. I started Met in the beginning of October, and I've lost about 20 lbs already.

I had Met induced appetite supression and food aversion. My doc said it's ok and that at least I would loose weight. The problem is even with both those I was gaining weight. I know get hungry after probably months of no appetite whatsoever. I don't have huge cravings, but I'm also up about 10 to 15 pounds from my lowest weight before the s/e started. I am about 20 to 25 pounds from my goal weight.
