Hi...well I am thinking lately that I need to start taking some herbal remedies, vits, minerals etc to help with my PCOS. I am on BCPs and trying to get my diet on track, but it's tough. I am not an overweight, but not skinny either! My main symptoms, before going onto BCPs, were acne, v irregular AF and excess hair, which I still have to some extent. I am not ttc, but would definitely like to start taking some supplements, esp considering the days are getting a lot more wintery etc and I have a mouth ulcer at the moment, so I think I may be a little run down or anaemic. I would really appreciate some suggestions, thanks! BTW, I am a big tea lover and I heard that green tea can be beneficial - does anyone know if this is the case?
I see that a good few people have checked my message but I still haven't gotten a reply...I really would appreciate some info from anyone who knows even a smidgeon more than me, thank you.
Hi Nolly,
Im not an expert on herbal remedies, but I have recently started taking Vitex agnus castus, this is a herb which helps balance hormones. I don't know if you can take it with bcp's you could maybe ask your doctor. Another thing I found that helped me alot was taking a really good mulit- vitamin. I have also started to take chromium which is good for people with insulin resistance. I can honestly say since starting all these I have never felt better, I feel like a different person and I have so much more energy that I used to.
Take care

I'm no expert by any means, but my first advice would be to start out with a good multi-vitamin at least. I've been told by one of my doctors that BCPs deplete Vitamin C, so that might not be a bad idea either. A good B-complex vitamin has helped me greatly, especially with energy. All of these are pretty safe and a good idea for most folks. I'd hold off on too much other experimentation until you've tried that for about a month, personally.
If you think you may be anemic, get to the doctor if you can to have blood tests done if you can. Anemia can be very serious and sneaky. Then your doctor can guide you on just how much iron to take, as too much can be as bad as too little.
As far as green tea goes, I personally found it helpful. Plus it's yummy! I have fallen off the wagon with my green tea and I think I was losing more weight back when I was drinking it and supplementing with the extract. I would also apply it topically to my face and it really helped it look nice and even as well. It's good stuff.
I wish you luck in finding some things to help you feel better!
I agree to start out with a good Multi Vitamin, B-complex, and Flaxseed oil. and if your up for it some fish oil. those are all good things to start off with. I have noticed a change in the hair, and how I feel. it does make a difference also exercise and try hard to keep up with a good diet.. not a perfect one but a decent one.. I still eat stuff I shouldn't but I'm not perfect. I'm not over weight either.. nor skinny. I'm inbetween. but it's enough to make things out of whack in my body. I also walk over a mile every day too.
I think that the herbs are something you need to slowly introduce into your body and sometimes not always necessary. I think your best bet is to let the vitamins get into your system.. give them at least a month or so. Then research and try and understand what your issues are and what herbs may help them. I come to this board all the time to search other's success or problems with herbs and google things as well. Then try one herb at a time. Give them time to take effect before you jump onto another one. because if one isn't working or doesn't seem to be good for you.. you know what it is. It takes a long time to find out what herbs work and what doesn't.. a lot of experimenting. so keep up with the vitamins and slowly work on the herbs. Goodluck!
To all of you - thank you soo much for your replies and valued advice!! I'm getting right on the case now and I'm googling the things you mentioned. I think a month's period to see how they work for me is a very wise plan and hopefully it'll work out well and benefit me. Thanks again, (((HUGS)),
Nolly.
