Default No insurance...

I have no insurance, and no money to pay for any... but I don't qualify for anything from the government... and it's worrying me because it makes me wonder about whether I will be able to get insurance in the future, if PCOS is problematic with that... any suggestions as to what I can do, or experience with this type of situation?
My parents have me on their cost-sharing thing, called Samaritan Ministries- it does cost sharing with a 200 deductible for actual dr. visits and such... but prescriptions and stuff aren't covered... and it's kind of worrisome because it doesn't count as insurance, so it makes me wonder about the future, and the fact that I've been "technically" uninsured for the last five years or so- even though we had the cost sharing thing.

Based on your screen name, I am wondering if you are in nursing school? If you eventually get a job that offers group insurance, you can't be turned down to participate in their plan. Most hospitals or physician groups would offer group insurance to their employees. For now, have you checked into insurance offered by the school for students? It is usually very reasonable. You many not want it right now, but it may make it easier to get individual insurance in the future, if you wind up working for a company that offers group insurance.

Are you a part of the National Student Nurses Association? I know that they have links to health insurance for their members. I would also check with your school. I am in college and I know that my school has a free clinic for the students that is run by Nurse Practitioners (sometimes they understand our disorder just as well as a doctor if not better), and my school also offers an affordable health insurance for the students. You might want to check with yours to see if they do that as well. As far as prscriptions, sometimes the company that makes the Rx will give you a discount if you get them directly from the company based on your income. Every penny counts right?

i'll second the last post. if you're in school. the school should have a clinic for students that offers rx drugs and physician visits. Also, check with your financial aid office for student health insurance plans!

Im in nursing school and every semester they take out a portion of our money to cover insurance. Most people dont know but you have to waive it if you have insurance or you are automatically charged for it. I dont know where you go to school but most nursing programs require you to have insurance so you could already be paying for it and not know. I agree with others check on campus and see. Best of luck. Oh yeah also depending on your parents income you might qualify for state funded programs. Most states have programs for women where you can get free BCP's and things like that. Hope that helped a little.

Walmart, meijer and many other companies offer discount drugs. And one of the main meds is Metformin(for PCOS) it is on their $4 list and i, being uninsured myself, am very greatful for that. A generic clomid for infertility is also on the list. Hope that helps

i totally understand your dilema, i don't have insurance either, but i found it helpful that this site has an "all natural" section for woman who want to take an alternate route rather than taking pharmaceuticals.
