I lost my job recently and I have been doing some freelance work, so I have no insurance. I can't afford Cobra and my pills will be running out at the end of the month, I am currently taking Ortho Evra Lo, which has been the only way for me to get my period.
Does anyone know of anything I can do to get the pills? Can I buy a generic on my own? Does anyone have any suggestions?
I don't think you need insurance if you go to your family planning clinic, who can provide you contraception either for free or for a very reduced price. Good luck! x
I don't have insurance either and I told my doctor this before going to see her. She wanted to start me on BCPs but didn't want to break my bank, so she gave me a patient starter kit of Yaz for free. She was able to do this because the drug companies give them drugs to use as "samples" for their patients. I was able to get a three month supply of the BCP, Yaz, until my insurance kicks in in early May. You could contact your doctor and let them know your situation. They might be willing to work with you and your situation.
The BCP brand you're taking isn't on any of them I don't think, but a lot of pharmacies now have BCP for a very low price. For example, Wal-mart has Tri-Sprintec (generic of Ortho Tri Cyclen) for $10. So if I were you I'd go see your gyno (I think a regular checkup will be about $100 maybe? depending, of course) and ask her to prescribe that. If you don't have the $$ for a checkup right now, I'd call your gyno and say that your schedule is full for the next month but you're running out of pills. Then make an appointment for a month or two from now. You'll have that time to come up with the $$, and in the meantime your Dr. will probably send a couple refills of your BCP to the pharmacy to tide you over.

Since you lost your job and have no insurance you can get low cost or no cost birth control. They give you a years supply upfront. They have a pretty wide selection too.
