Default No Insurance? Work at McDonalds :)

I am extreamly lucky that my DH gets fabulous insurance from his job. Covered all the fertility drugs we used and we had very low co-pays.

When I first went to our fertility doc, during my first appointment the nurse asked about the insurance (I am sure they do so that they can recommend a financing option). She was happy to hear we had great insurance but then mentioned that McDonalds' insurance covers infertility treatments and that she sometimes recommends people get a job there just for that purpouse. She said that some people have acutally gone and done that! Just thought that might be helpful to someone trying to get pg who doesn't mind flipping burgers lol

Well, I don't need it but is it just for people working full-time at McD's?

I really have no idea. It is just something the nurse said. Can anyone answer that? Anyone work there, or use to work there??

I have actually heard that they are a good company to work for. I think working in fast food has a stigma, but Ive known a couple people that worked there that said they were well taken care of!

Oh, I am not denying the stigma that goes along with it, but it can be helpful for someone going through fertility treatments who may not otherwise be able to afford it!

They might have a Website with employee benefit information on it. It might not detail what all is covered, but it might explain if the insurance is offered to both full- and part-timers.

A lot of people work at Starbuck's, too for the insurance. What is their infertility policy like?

I really don't know. I think it was simliar to what we had. $40 specialist copay, and then just $20 copay for my injections. That was all we had to pay. I had to use 6 pens during the one cycle that I used them to get pg... that is $3600+ worth of gonal-f... I paid like $80... because I only had to pay the copay once and twice I got 2 pens. That is a steal if you ask me!

I'm glad McD's works out for some people but that has not been the case for my mother who's put her whole life into that company.

I found this on McDonald's website, but it doesn't say anything about fertility treatment. It's probably more in detail once you actually get hired
http://mcdonalds.com/corp/career/employee_benefits.html

They do have adoption assistance. Any bit helps if you're looking to adopt! "Adoption assistance - Our adoption assistance program helps employees afford the costs associated with adopting a child under age 18. Employees are reimbursed for 80% of eligible expenses, up to $2,500 per child." http://mcdonalds.com/corp/career/emp..._worklife.html

Oh Nena! I want your insurance now! If you don't mind me asking, what insurance company do you have?

Kat- I'm not sure how good it is with fertility treatments, but I do believe they have a good family plan. I had a coworker who started working there to get the medical benefits for her kids, since it was less expensive than the family plan our employer provided and covered more things. I also remember Suze Orman had a lady call into her show asking about something completely random and when Suze found out she didn't have medical for her family, she became upset and told her to work for Starbucks because they had a good medical plan. lol If Suze says it, it must be a good plan

Aymen- We have Aetna. They are absolutly fabulous. There is a $25000 limit for fertility treatments, for like IVF and such. But we just did injections and IC, so oddly enough, the injections were covered under perscriptions since you administer them yourself. So I never even touched the $25000 they offered. Pretty cool if you ask me!

Not every McDonalds has that coverage. I use to be a manager at McD's and they did not cover any type of fertility. And yep you have to be considered a full time employee. Now our Home Depot has fertility coverage if you are a full time employee.

We are so blessed to have Aetna too. When I made the appt w/ the RE, the receptionist said, "Aetna is wonderful." I was so surprised when I found out all they cover for infertility, diagnosis, tx, IUI and IVF. Yay!
