I seen my doctor today and I am offically diagosed PCOS. After the endo explained what PCOS was to me he asked if I had any questions. I asked him to refer me to a nutrionist. He said that that was a great suggestion and immediately advised that this is the way he is going to treat me. He would like me to start a weight management program and I am to see him on Nov 1st. On my next appointment he wants to see how much wieght I loss and how my symptoms reacted to my weight loss before he prescribes medication. I know loosing weight could lessen the severity of your symptoms but my question is this....Has anyones endo treated them this way before? After loosing weight has anyones symptoms lesson?
I don't have personal experience, but I know a lot of women on here have seen a decrease in symptoms with weight loss. Be aware though that PCOS may make it more difficult to lose weight even when you are doing everything right. It sounds like it is worth a try if you are willing to work at it but if at your next appt you feel like you should be getting additional treatment with meds don't be afraid to ask the doc. Good luck!

...i have gone periods of time with no meds and only trying to lose weight... i was able to lose a bit on my own but not as much as i lost of glucophage... i also did see changes in my symptoms... i would always encourage someone to see how far they can get without meds before starting them... unless it were dangerous to not be on the meds... just my opinion...
Hi there! I actually was given the option to see a nutritionist, but I opted to try to lose weight on my own. So far, I'm down 20 pounds and the only thing that has changed so far is that my body is reacted to the Met I was prescribed. I'm only on 1000mg a day, but I'm doing well with it. You're right losing weight will definitely help with the symptoms of PCOS...GOOD LUCK!

GREAT!!! I have tried to loose weight before and it is such a struggle! I think maybe I will be more motivated this time because my health is at risk (not to say that my health wasnt at risk before). I am going to by a book regarding PCOS and wieght loss and try some of those suggestions. I know there is another section in this forum suggestion books, but does anyone recommend one? Thanks for all of you support and I am thinking of starting a journal.
