I have another question for you all. I haven't had a period for years (only a few scant ones previous to 1995), and absolutely NOTHING my previous doc could do would give me one.
Well, I am wondering if now that I am getting thyroid treated, does that mean that I could possibly get my period back?
Anyone NOT have their period until their thyroid was treated?
I am having CRAMPS for the first time in years. Wondering if it is the flood of diahhrea that may be coming due to meds, or if it is actually my period deciding to come?
Anyone? Thanks!

Thanks.
What I would love to be pregnant! I have been pregnant twice at least, and lost the baby both times.
I wonder if the thyroid disfunction would have caused me to lose a pregnancy since I am hypothyroid?
Just in case, should I take any thing particular? I am 40, and if I did get pregnant, I wouldn't want to add to the risk of birth defects.
I am concerned about downs syndrome since I am 40, but are there other issue I should be concerned about?
Would I be able to maintain a pregnancy if I did indeed get pregnant, given that I am on synthroid?
Oh, and my biggest fear, multiple pregnancy. I already have two 4 year olds!
Thanks,

I am so thankful that I was able to carry both of my children to term. I have been hypothyroid for a very long time (undiagnosed). Apparently it wasn't enough to miscarry but it was enough to prevent me from being able to breastfeed. Now that my thyroid is functioning I ovulated on my own two weeks ago. I am getting ready for AF today or tomorrow. It was so hard not to try to "catch" that egg. After infertility treatment I felt like I was "wasting" that egg. I would love another child but my husband is not so sure. If I do have a third I would like to wait another year.
If I were you I would make sure to take a multivitamin every day. You may want to throw in some extra folic acid. Also make sure you are not getting too much vitamin A. I know that it can cause birth defects in high doses.
I'm so glad you are getting thyroid treatment! It has made such a difference in my life. I hope that you do get pregnant! Those 4yo's would probably be close to 5 and they would probably be good help!

Edited to Add: The synthroid is safe to take during pregnancy and would help you maintain the pregnancy if being hypothyroid was the root cause of the miscarriages. I have know plenty of people that have had successful pregnancies and healthy children in their 40's. I know the risk of birth defects is higher, but it's not a guarantee that your child would have a problem.

I went to my GP he suggested it was because of the thyroid replacement. SInce then i have took another period but i'm not sure if it's just coincicence or the thyroid is regulating it.
I have read that low thyroid can affect fertility and could possibly be a factor in miscarraige if it's Hashimotos. I'll have to find the research i read and post it. |

I would give anything to have a period at this time, even if it was too long. But i can understand that it would not be pleasant.
Would love to read the period.

Anyone thing this is related to hypothyroidism?

When it is out of whack (yes that is the technical term, LOL!) it can throw off your hormone balance. It's the same theory as a high insulin level causing infertility and disappearing periods.

I went to my obgyn and she gave me progesterone. I started after the first cycle of twelve pills. If you are planning on trying to get pregnant you might need to consult a reproductive endocrinologist, or an obgyn that has a history of treating people with PCOS/Thyroid problems. |

For two of these I was on the pill, and during the last two years i've had around 6 periods, even taking the hypo medication.
About three months ago I did have one after the other, like regular for two cycles, but i'm still waiting again, and the last one I had was at the end of March (even though I may have recently ovulated) So I can say that even taking the medication, your periods wont become clockwork regular.
