Hi
Im new to the site and im just wondering if anyone else has no periods at all! i was diagnosed with pcos in 2005 after going to see several doctors. im 19 and now i havent had a period for 4 years. i have all the other pcos symtoms but it seems that most people with pcos still get some periods.
Im finding it abit hard to deal with. My doctor has told me that there is as near as makes no difference to no chance of me getting pregnant. I know im young and im obviously not trying now but its really hard to deal with. Ive been on met, several other medications and many birth control pills but nothing seems to help.
I think I may have gone about 1.5 years without a period. I also am on Met and hoping that will help regulate me. I know some PCOSers have luck with Met in addition to low carbing/exercising, as far as becoming regular. Met is just part of the equation.

I can go years without a period too. The thing that works best for me is a very low carb diet. Two years ago i went on a low carb diet and within one week i started my period and i had one every month for about eight months.
Also don't get discouraged about having children. I never had a period but with todays advances in fertility treatments i've had two.

smcargill,
Has your doctor tried prometrium or provera to start your period? Just curious. I too have gone many years without one. I am just now ttc, but in the past, I was also worried. My doctor put me on provera many years ago. He did this to give me a starting point for birth control, to try to regulate my cycle. It didn't regulate me but caused withdrawl bleeding monthly. From what I understand, this is suppose to be healthier that nothing at all. Of course when I quit taking the bc, I went back to nothing at all. Now I am taking prometrium to start my cycle and then will start clomid in hopes to conceive. My doctor seems to think that everything is going to work out. You are young and there is so much they can do. Hang in there and try not to stress too much.
I don't have periods either. I started my period at 13 and had them every 28 days like clock work till I was 15 1/2 when they just stopped. After 6 months of nothing my mom took me to the dr and with provera I had a period. I didn't have another period until I was 19 1/2 I had it totally on my own and it was 36 days and totally painful but I was thrilled to have it. I didn't have another period till I was 21 and on the pill...butt because I have hormonal dependacy I had to stop taking it because I would get really sick. So I stopped having periods. I started on Glucophage at 22 and within 3 months I was having a period every 35 days. I had to stop taking it due to finances and the loss of health insurance that was in 2002. I had my last period then.
I've spotted a few times since but nothing worth getting excited over. I am currently trying to find a way that I can somehow find a a way to get back on gluc...but no luck yet.

I wasn't diagnosed until 4 months ago, but I went 5 years. I just stopped completely. Now I am TTC and I take Prometrium to bring on AF every two months. It souldn't be a bad idea to ask your dr about it.
As a teen I had a few regular periods but then they went away, When I started having sex I started Ortho and that had me regular. Whenever I have stopped the birth control I never get a regular period. I was diagnosed with PCOS this past Dec and have been on Metformin since Feb.... The doc gave me something to have a period in Feb but since then nothing. The doctors made me think I didnt have to worry to much after all the testing. She said I have plenty of eggs and my husbands sperm is good.....just have to get the eggs to start releasing! Don't worry to much until you are ready to to start trying. You can always prep by eating right, excercise and telling your doctor you want to do what it takes to prep your body BEFORE you are ready. Otherwise you could be ready and having to go through steps to get your body ready.

I never started my period until last June, when I was 26. I dodged doctors for a long time, so I never went on any meds for it. Just started on my own.
I'm not sure how to console you on the kid thing, because it's not an issue for me. I don't grieve because I'd never considered having children of my own. My mind has always been geared toward adoption or fostering. Just remember that you're young, and many people who were told they would never have kids, do. Prepare for the 'worst' (whatever that is in your mind), but don't lose all hope. *hug*
I've stopped having them as well since I went off BCP. I did a body cleanse with the guidance of an Amish doctor and I started a REAL AF within 3 days of that. But that was the last one because I could not afford the herbs.
I am on Met now waiting, waiting, waiting. I have some left ovary pain today so I think my body tried to ovulate...at least I'm hoping.
Are you on met and BCP? How long have you been on them and what dosage of met? You should be having AF on BCP because it causes withdrawal bleeding...how strange.
hey dear..!
even i never started until very recently.i am 24 and started having it from the month of feb..i keep my fingers crossed to have it again next month... i was also very worried, its just unbelievable since i thought i'l never ever have it, i dont know what worked for me was it the met or my 30lbs weight loss...
Even i used to think that evryone posting here have irregular but it not that they dont have it at all and when i was your age a doctor told me that i'l never have a baby... like Mireille even i think of adopting, i love kids... i dont know but sometimes i feel maybe adoption is best for me since even if i try to have my own maybe my kid will have to deal with what i am dealing with and no ways i want that..
dont worry you are not alone, you are young so concentrate on other things thats important for you right now and live healthy... i am single and trying for higher studies, that keeps me busy, but i do get depressed at times, well its part of life..
i am sure u will have it soon...
I don;t have periods, either. I don't know your situation, but I don't need to lose weight, either. Except for some baby weight, but thats okay. You willl most likely be able to have kids, you just may need some help at it, like lots of us do. It is not healthy to go more than 3 months without bleeding, though, as it increases your risk of cancer and probably lots of other things, so I would definately see what your doctor has to say as far as that goes. But, I would get a different doctor if he is discouraging you and your hopes for kids one day and find one that understands more about PCOS.

I had not had one in two years and an older lady told me to take Lydia Pinkham 'A Baby in Every Bottle and within two months I had a period. I told my sister in law about it and with in a month she was pregnant doesn't work for evryone but for some it does.
