I have been taking 500mg of Met every morning for a week. I've read all the threads about side affects and such here. I haven't had any problems. Am I doing something wrong??? I know that probably sounds really silly -- hey she's not having any problems, why is she complaining!! :o I just want to make sure I'm doing it right, I guess.
I take it at the same time. I've cut back on the carbs mostly (I had gone "off the wagon" for a few weeks). I make sure I take it with food.

Way to go! Your low carb lifestyle and your low beginning dosage are keeping the nasty s/e away. Side effects are not proportional to the drugs efficiency, so relax. You';re doing all the right things.

I don't think I had any real side effects from Met either. I have occasional bouts of heartburn/indigestion and a couple of times with diarrhea, but nothing I can relate to the met. I started taking it in May. I moved up quickly from 500 mg to 2000 mg daily. My only concern is that I haven't lost any weight, yet. I am hoping that will happen. I am walking daily for exercise. I need to do the low carb. I was scared of the side effects, too, but so far I feel ok with it. There are days that I don't feel well and I feel like I did before the met, but most days, I can tell I feel better.
I'm glad to hear that too... I'm also taking 500mg and after 3 months, not had really any results. If anything my period has stopped. I haven't really had any side effects either. My doc said I'd have to take it consistently for 3-6 months before I noticed anything, and I've not been taking it very consistently. I often forget doses and had to wait a couple of weeks between prescriptions both months. This month though, I've been good so far. We'll see what happens...
I've been on GlucXR for almost 2 weeks. I started at 500mg and moved up to 1000mg after one week. I've not had any ill side effects either.....YEA!!
I have noticed that I'm not as hungry, but the "crankies" from low blood sugar sneak up on me....today was better....only b/c I ate more frequently.
Meredith, it's likely that you will not see much results until you go up to a higher dosage, since your PCOS is fairly "strong" --I know this because...Meredith is my sister! I mean my *real* sister, as well as my Cyster! Welcome to the boards, Mer!
I think I had to make an emergency run to the bathroom twice when I first started on 500mg/day. (and that was the first day) I didn't have any more problems until I doubled the dose. I also didn't start losing weight until then either.

Hey Mel! That was my worry too. I hadn't been back to my doctor because I hadn't been very consistant on the meds. I think I really just need to find a new doctor. I liked her quite a bit, but she's far away now that I've moved.
She wanted to start me on a low dose and then see if I needed to move up. I'm guessing the answer is yes. Maybe I'll do that search today...
And thank you for the welcome! Mel is the one who told me about these boards. She kept saying 'Well, I read on SoulCysters...' so I had to join! I'm really enjoying it so far.
