Does it mean that the metformin isn't working if I don't have any side-effects?
I've been on 1500/mg for about a week and haven't had any diarrea or nausea yet. I know each person's body reacts to medications differently, but everyone I have talked to so far has had at least some side-effects. It did cause AF to come, but I don't know yet if I am actually ovulating.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think that lack of s/e would be an indication that the met is not working. I don't have many s/e from it and I ovulate. (but I'm only on 500mg) You could start temping to find out if and when you ovulate. It's a pain in the butt, but it I've found it worth it to know. Or you could request blood work about a week before you expect your next period to start to see if your progesterone went up. Good luck!

I agree, I'm no expert either. But I didn't have any s/e's when I started Met either. I posted a similiar post about 6 weeks ago. I felt better, I had more energy, things like that..but nothing like the bad s/e's I had been reading about and was so scared of

I just started Met last night. (500mg working up to 1500.) I have heard so much about bad s/e's, but if you actually talk to people, there are lots that don't have many s/e's. I think the people with bad s/e's are just more vocal (for good reason). If it has brought AF on, I think that is a great sign!! Out of curiosity, how long did it take before AF showed??

I think the only thing that won't happen if you're not having the bad s/e's is weight loss due to all the stomach issues (lol).
I've been on 1750mg for almost 2 months now and only have s/e's once in a while if I eat something I know I shouldn't. I think if anything, those of us with no s/e are the lucky ones.

lmcole81 - i took 500/mg for a month with out AF showing up. i then upped my dosage to 1000/mg for one week and then 1500/mg the next. it was about 7 days after i upped it to 1500/mg that AF finally made her visit.

Thanks Jaime! That is good to hear!
My doc told me to do 500 for a week then 1000 for a week, then up to 1500. Hopefully my body can handle that quick of an adjustment!!
