Points: 1,269.87 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,269.87 | Non-insulin resistant and taking Metformin Based on an ultrasound and some blood work, my doctor has diagnosed me with PCOS. However, my insulin levels came back normal. My doctor prescribed me Metformin, which I began taking today. I read the Meformin Q&A on this thread and know that it can make non-insulin resistant women ovulate (I've only had 3 periods this year). However, most of the information out there regarding PCOS refers to insulin resistance.
Are there any women on this board who are non-insulin resistant who have had success with Metformin? My husband and I are TTC. I would appreciate any responses! |

I am happy to say that this is the first month I have ovulated on day 15. My O days are usually on days 33-39. With a little patience, met is starting to work.

1. What dosage did you start out on and what dosage are you currently taking?
2. Have you experienced any side effects?
3. How did you know you were ovulating? Are you using Ovulation Predictor Kits or are you charting your temps and cervical mucus?
Thanks for your responses and time! It makes me feel so much better knowing that I'm not the only person who has PCOS and is non-insulin resistant. I'm very hopeful that the Metformin will work. |

I started on 1000mg and that is the dosage I am currently on. I have been very lucky to have not really had any side effects. Though, my tummy was a little upset the first few days and I have been feeling weepy. I used regular ovulation sticks for months but I never had a positive one, so my Dr had me buy the clear blue easy ovulation monitor. I am so glad I did, It was well worth the money. The monitor is much more reliable than those hard to read sticks.
Just know that it could take several months for the Met to start working on your cycles. What dosage are you taking? Are you having any side effects? Please feel free to ask me anything. I am very thankful to have finally met someone in the same place. Wishing you some peace of mind and a bucket full of baby dust.

My doctor has started me on 500mg/day and every 3 weeks I will increase by 500mg/day until I am taking 2000mg of Metformin. I was asking about the side effects because so far, I haven't really had any. My theory was that maybe it's because my insulin levels are considered normal and the Metformin doesn't have much work to do. I'll wait another week or 2 before I really stick to that theory, though! Apparently, although I'm (we're) non-insulin resistant, my doctor thinks my ovaries may be sensitive to the amount of insulin in my body which makes me very hopeful that it will work.
It's interesting that you said you're feeling weepy, because I've been feeling a little moody. I chalked it up to other things, but if it continues at least I know it can have that effect. Of course, I'm also on Progesterone because my doctor wants me to have a period, which I haven't had in quite a while.
I've heard of the ovulation sticks, but not the monitor. I will have to look for it. Did you test only on certain days or every day? As I mentioned before, I'm not used to having regular cycles and since I'm hoping the Metformin will change that I was wondering when or how often to check if I'm ovulating.
Are you also TTC? If so, do you think you'll start Clomid w/the Met? |

I just got my BFP the first month we tried. Met was all I had to take to conceive! I also charted so I knew the right days to bd, but I could not have done it without Met! Good luck to you

At the time, I wasn't insulin resistant. After 6 months, I got pregnant. My dd is 18 months old now and I'm back on it. This time, I am insulin resistant. So I'm now on 2000mg. I'm looking to have baby number 2!

I got periods regularly for 2 or 3 months and then my cycles got longer and longer. I just started 2000mg/day of Met XR today hoping to have more normal cycles. |
