Non-religious Adoption agencies or you don't practice a certain religion?!?
My husband and I have strong values but are by no means religious. Not necessarily atheist but we don't go to Church, we don't read the bible, etc. and don't plan on raising our kids with any sort of religion.
Do you know of any agencies that are great that are succesful in placing infants and/or toddlers with families like us? All seem to be faith based. Also, at this time we aren't looking for children given to the state or foster kids (haven't ruled it out, just want to check out other options first).
I know that while a lot of them are faith based, not all necessarily require that you have or practice the same faith. Catholic Charities is one that does not require that you be a catholic. It is worth asking the question of each group - the worst that can happen is they say you must. Good luck! :-)

Have you inquired with Catholic Social Services in Anchorage? I know there you fill out a profile of sorts on yourselves, and families looking to put their child up for adoption get to look through family info and choose one that fits them. That may work for you.

I think most agencies, even though they are a religious organization, don't require you to be of the same religion. We used Children's Hope International for both of our adoptions. They are a Christian agency, but don't require clients to be Christian, only employees. (We are Christian, but they never asked.) I don't know what kind of adoption you're looking at. I'd highly recommend their Colombia program if that's something you are interested in. I've heard good things about their regular China program as well, but I would not recommend their China special needs program at all (different staff in the two programs makes allll the difference!)
Good luck!

I don't know what kind of adoption you are interested in (domestic vs international), but we used Wide Horizons for Children out of Mass (they service most of the country depending on which program you apply to). They are not for profit, but not affiliated with any religious group. We had a great experience both times. You'd need a local agency to do your homestudy and post placement reports. Catholic Charities will work with you regardless of your faith (or lack thereof!)
Wow, I didn't realize there was more than one other Alaskan here! I live in the interior. I would definitely try CSS in Anchorage. Our profile is with them right now and faith has never been brought up as an issue. They're also very nice people. Ask for Voni.

Chalking it up to a learning experience and waiting for another match!
We actually used Jewish Family Services in CA and we are not Jewish. You definitely don't have to practice any specific religious beliefs for most agencies but when you fill out your questionnaires they probably will ask you. Really I think it's more of the birthparents preference than an agency issue. Good luck!
