Question Non-stop bleeding(I know there's a sticky, please forgive)

Hi all

I posted a little bit of my situation in the Alternative Remedies forum, but I feel the need to bring it here as well, and ask for advice. A brief history:

Diagnosed PCOS 2002 during infertility workup. Before that, had taken BCPs of two different flavors, bad results with both, so I finally just stopped. That stopped AF from showing up for 9 months(no preg.). DH and I then decided to ttc, so went to the doctor, who referred us to infertility. Hello PCOS! Was put on Metformin and Yasmin to regulate, but neither of those worked, no conception, and in the interim, we had to move across the country for family reasons. Lost my insurance, and wasn't able to find a decent doctor for the money we had available. Went about 10 months w/no AF after moving, but got it back on a pseudo-regular basis for a while. It's been a long time since I've seen a doctor for my PCOS, and it's been managable, up until 4 months ago.

4 months ago, I experienced a horrible AF, cramping, severe bleeding, all sorts of fun stuff. Two weeks after it ended, AF was back, and she hasn't left me since. Heavy bleeding almost constantly, and clots, oh my!

Like I posted in the other thread, I'm seeing a naturopath who has me on a good course of action. Changes in diet, lifestyle, and hormonal therapy. She understands my reluctance to go back on BCP, and I am so thankful for that!

Why I'm here, and why I'm worried, scared, and in knots right now, is that the hormonal therapies she's using to try and stop the bleeding aren't working. I took tang kuei for over a week, no stop. She put me on natural progesterone(Prometrium), been taking that for 12 days, no stopping. I have an appointment tomorrow with a nurse practitioner who's going to do the blood/lab work to rule out any underlying causes.

My question for you all is: What should I be worried about? Am I looking at possible fibroids here? I'm scared and tired, and I'm sick to death of bleeding all the time! I just want this to go away so I can live life normally again. My poor DH is having a time with it too, and that's an understatement.

Any thoughts, opinions, etc.? I'm at the end of my rope here, and any help would be most appreciated

Not trying to scare you but you should find out the underlying causes. It could be something minor or it could be something major. I had heavy bleeding with clotting that would not stop and turned out to be endometrial cancer. I support the use of alternative treatment but make sure you know what it is your treating. I hope all is well with you and it is just a minor thing. Keep us posted.

Thank you so much for your support. I know you don't mean to scare, and I'm aware that endometrial cancer could be the underlying cause. I'll find out more tomorrow, hopefully. As I'm only 25, the cancer isn't as much of a concern for me as the fibroids are, so at least there's that.

Thank you again for the support and kind words, it really does mean the world to me!

When I finally went to a doctor that seemed to know what was going on I told him my biggest problem I was always on my period and about twice a month I was like the yosemite gieser it was horrible and i had major pians, Anyways one of the things he told me that put me to ease was that since I wasn't ovulating thins layers or blodd were building up in my uterus and that once or twice a month when I had the heavy bleeding and clots that were huge was that build up finally being pushed through si I to was put on met and yasmin it seemed to work for me however the yasmin just stopped me from being on my period non stop . I don't see why they put you on b/c when you are ttc has clomid ever been offered to you? Also have you ever had an ultra sound done to help eliminate other problems? Sometimes you yourself have to request to your doc that you would feel better if they did one to see what was going on. I wish you the best of luck and I'm sending lots of baby dust your way!!!!!!

Well, my doctor's appointment for today fell through, she was sick, and I'm still gushing like a fountain. Huge clots, the whole nine yards. I called my Naturopath, and she said that it's time to go to the hospital, so that's where I'm headed. Wish me luck!

I am experiencing the same problem. This has never happened to me before. I am scared too.

I will call my doctor in the morning and make an appointment.

If there is pain w/ it I would look into endometriosis. Many women w/ endo have a lot of pain. PCOS, endo, IBS and PMS all tend to run together so its worth checking out.

Hope your trip turns out okay. If you have any endo questions feel free to ask me anything!

Take care,
Ashley

you should get checked, i was stubborn and had a 49 day bleeder once. nothing will bring you down faster than thinking you have a never ending period. for my own sanity ( and my husbands ) i finnally went to the doctor and started bcp's again.

I just got home from the ER. What a pointless experience that was. Nothing makes you feel like you're being taken care of like having to stand while they take your vitals with blood running down your legs. They didn't do anything for me besides prescribe the BCP, which I won't take, and sent me on my way. Didn't check for any underlying causes, or anything else. Just told me that it's regular for women with PCOS to do things like this. Ummm.....no? Thanks to everyone for your support and kind words, they mean so much!!!

*hugs*

I bleed for 3 straight months. same as you, huge clots and all....... turned out i was preg and MC.. the tissue never expeled itself and just sat there and caused me to hemorage, I had to under go an emergency D&C right in the Drs office. the dr that I was goign to that keept symptomatically treating my bleeding as part of the PCOS (who happens to be a top fertility dr in my area) was clueless.

good luck and please go to a dr that knows what the hell they r doing.
