Question Noriesterone (progesterone) tablets

Hi everyone

My GP keeps prescribing me with noriesterone tablets 5mg per day to take for 2 weeks out of every 4. Instead I have been taking them to bring on a period every 3 months as it seems that every 3 months I get severe PMT, all the pains as well and no bleed. So I have to resort to taking these pills to relieve the symptoms.

I am not ttc, was diagnosed with PCOS at age 24 am now 38 and have two children aged 10 and 8. I had ovarian diathermy to help with conceiving.

What I am asking is should I be taking this as prescribed by my GP for 2 weeks out of 4!!? He did say he wants me to have a regular period, as if I don't take anything I will have none at all and the PMT will keep coming back! I am not very happy with the situation as I have just got off two lots of anti-depressants in June this year and I don't want to be pill popping again if you know what I mean! Are there any alternatives for me out there?

Any advise would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Default

are these tablets norethisterone tablets?? If so I take them, but i have been told to take them for 3 weeks and come off them for one week. My problem was excessive prolonged bleeding, and it stoppoed it - but the side effect was excrucisting stomach/pelvic pains. It was very difficult getting a happy medium. In the end I decided that the better option was coping with the bleeding, as opposed to the pain, and I stopped them completely, of my own volition. My bleeding has stopped totally now, and has done now for a full week, the first full week since April This may be the start of a barren spell for me, judging by other forums, who knows. We will just need to wait and see.............
