Default is this normal?

I got back some test results today, these were drawn on Jan 12th and I really need help with them.

here they are (remember they're in UK measurements)

DHEA-S~ 5.5 'high' {still looking this up}

17 alpha hydroxy progesterone (not the one that tells if you O'd)~ 5.6 which is 'normal' {so it isnt late onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia}

SHBG~ 65.6 'normal' {would normally be 'low' in PCOS, so it MIGHT not be PCOS}

Androstenedione~ 17.7 'high' {dunno yet}

Testosterone~ 5.5 'high' {usually high in pcos and other androgen problems}

Free andgrogen index 8.4 'high' {as above}

no progesterone result yet.

Havent looked these all up yet to see what it means, but when I have I'll tell ya I think it implies that it is an androgen problem, but possibly not PCOS. This means I'll probably have to have an MRI done to rule out any tumours etc.

Yup, I'm worried.

Are these things supposed to be raised in PCOS?

many thanks to anyone who answers.

I'm sure someone else can answer this better than I can. But I think one of the problems with fixing PCOS is that everyone's symptoms are a little different. My progesterone was high, and I think testosterone, too. But I have no idea if all those other things were even tested on me.

I did have a MRI to rule out pituitary adenoma, but my doc told me that treating a pituitary adenoma (little tumor) is not difficult; there is a medicine they give you. And, then it turns out I do not have one.

So, I'm sure you are worried, but it is best to get it checked, so they can give you the medication if you need it. I didn't think the MRI was so bad -- actually having the test done. You just lay there still. Not painful or anything. Hope that helps a little.

I think there are stickys at the top of the page - one that goes through all the hormones and what the levels should be. That may be a good place for you to look. If it's not on this board, try "do you have this problem?" board.

thanks for replying the reason I'm worried about the MRI is I suffer from bad claustraphobia.
