I was only recently diagnosed with PCOS. The diagnosed was based mostly on the fact AF is pretty much non-existent. I have a few other symptoms, but nothing major. I am still waiting on the bloodwork to come back to let me know my glucose/insulin levels. I have had an ultrsound while I was still on BCP (just went off Sept 04) but was never told if there were any cysts. The ultrasound tech did ask me if I had irregular AF or if I had a family hx of diabetes, but no one ever said why. I have currently been prescribed Provera. I have noticed that the last week or so (even before taking the Provera) that I have this cramp-like pain in my abdomen. It is mostly on my right side. I have had this before and my gyn told me it was discomfort from AF, but I am now having these pains and no AF. Is this normal with PCOS or should I contact my doctor?
I think perhaps you should let you doc know what's going on b/c I think the pains can mean different things for different people. I've always on pains in my right ovary and after my D&C they seem to get worse. I was told it could possibly be scare tissue but it ended up being my bladder - it was slightly irritated from the proceedure. Altho I do/did not have cystic ovaries, I have heard that these pains can possibly be cysts bursting - which leads me to another reason why I think you should contact your doc - Are you still seing the same one? If so, and even if you're not... you should have been made aware of the u/s results and I think you need to get them. You stated you had the u/s when you were still on BCP's which ended in 09/04 - how long before that was your u/s?

I have had a few ultrasounds. One was 2.5 years ago. I had that done followed by a laproscopic procedure to check for endometrosis. I then had another ultrasound in the summer of 2004. That is when the tech asked me about my family history. Everytime I had one done they were checking more for endometrosis since that is what runs in my family and because I have never been overweight. PCOS never really came up in the discussions then.
Thanks for the advice. I think I may put a call into my doctor. This is all so new to me and I don't want to seem like I am overreacting or call her evey week with some new issue. Again, thank you for the support and advice. It is good to know that there are others out there with similar issues as me.
