Default Normal blood sugar values???

What are normal blood sugar values 2 hours after a meal? I've been trying to low-carb lately, and have been keeping track of my blood sugar (I have a glucometer my OB gave me when I had GD). Also, is it possible for blood sugar to rise over night? I took my b.s. last night after dinner and it was around 88, this morning it was 103. I had a handful of carrots right before bed, but that was 10 hours before I tested and I wouldn't think that a small amount of carrots could do that. Thanks for your help!

Normal is anywhere between 80 and 120 or 90 and 130 (it depends of whether your meter is a newer model that tests blood plasma. Your numbers sound excellent! Two hours after you eat it should be around 140 or less. And yes your sugar elevates or drops when you are asleep. It all depends on what you ate and when you ate it. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you ate at all and flucuations are normal.

LuvKat is correct, Meghan, and your levels do sound quite normal.

Carrots have a relatively high glycemic index, but you have to eat a LOT of carrots to have an appreciable effect on your blood glucose. And since they have vitamins and fiber, they are probably a good snack choice for you, especially since your glucose levels sound healthy. And as LuvKat said, normally our levels fluctuate, and often, our levels start to rise as morning approaches...........it's one way your body starts to prepare to wake you up in the morning, but releasing more glucose into the bloodstream to meet your increased energy needs when you wake up. But rising to 103? Don't worry about that and enjoy your carrots!
