I'm not sure about glucose tolerance tests, but I believe after a 12 hour fast your insulin should be about 10 or less.

Different labs have different values. The one I've seen most often is 15 or less.

I have read that up to 10 is normal (and my endo said 10 was the high end of normal when he gave me my results over the phone) 10-13 is mild resistance. I figure with this I am off the chart when mine was 17.7!

Does anyone know the low normal for fasting insulin? Mine was 4 and I have seen ranges that say 5-10 is normal. Just curious if my insulin could be too low??

Mine was 2.9 and I was wondering the same thing? I have been looking around and I can't find anything anywhere about it being too low. I was surprised that I wasn't IR. What did your dr. recommend as far as treatment?

My doctor just told me to not gain weight ( I am of normal weight) and that is all she told me. I have been very upset about this because the nurse tells me over the phone that my labs were normal, but my Dr still think I have PCOS due to symptoms. I asked the nurse if I needed to do anything and she said that now we will just know when I am ready to conceive..which is years and years away!

What did your Dr say???

Tbone: that sounds like what the Gyn I went to see right before thanksgiving said. After not listening to my concerns and spinning them around on me she suggested (even after I told her I was watching my intake and going to the gym 2-3 times a week for almost 2hrs total) I "try Weight Watchers or something" I was fuming mad. She proceeded not to run a single test. I went to my Primary Care at that point.....and he got the ball rolling on tests which came back pretty normal at that time, but he still thought there was reason to be concerned so he referred me to an Endo.

My dr said that I could starve myself and I would NOT lose any weight...because my estrogen is high and progestrone was too low (amongst other things). He said THATS why I gained 80lbs in 4 years w/o really changing my diet. He said that once I get my insulin and all this other crap that is out of sync, back in. I will be much happier and be able to lose weight easier.

I cant belive your dr told you that!

Anyways, I hope that helps?
