Default normal hsg but abnormal lap?

hi girls
just wondering, if those of you who were diagnosed with endo by lap had an abnormal hasg or saline ultrasound...or if they were normal but still found stuff on the lap

if you have endo ony our ovaries can't you see that on an ultrasound?

thanks!

I had endo on my ovaries that was never seen at a US scan. The cysts and adhesions were round the back of all my reproductive organs, so I think that was partly why, but also because cysts can be so tiny, yet soooooooo agonising!! The photos from the US scan can be different according to the time of the month, which pill your on (or other medication)...I guess that's why mine wasn't seen for so long, and I guess for many other women too.

The rest I can't help you with, sorry! xx

thanks ashley...that's odd bc my RE said that if I did have endo on ovaries they would most probably see it because it results in big cysts on the ovaries

did you have any other symptoms of endo?

I had cysts and endometriomas on my ovaries, fallopian tubes and womb, but they were concentrated to the back, strangley. My outward symptoms were extremely painful periods, cramping throughout the month, sharp pains in uterus and ovaries for no apparent reason, lower back and leg ache, fatigue, inability to sleep (due to discomfort and I think feeling exhausted from the pain and general yucky feeling!), pain during sex and going to the toilet.

Despite all these symptoms, I have mild endometriosis, and my gynae said he removed as much as he could see, but I believe there is more on my bowels etc due to the pain I still have.

From what I have read, an ultrasound scan seems to rarely show endo, but not entirely sure why. For years I complained of my pain but my US showed nothing. It's a very strange and difficult thing to diagnose and manage. Plus, in my experience, even if they suspect you have it, they will try anything other than an expensive lap operation to diagnose it!

Are you currently on any meds for pcos/endo? xx

Hi Ashley,

Thanks so much. I was never on the pill. My pain isn't too bad, it's just that it's been getting bad than what's normal for me and we can't figure out if it's due to me being on these fertility meds or if it's something else. That's why I rather have the surgery just to see and confirm. I have very mild pcos and I am only on 1500mg of metformin since January. I tried once cycle of femara, 2 of clomid, i ovulated on all but BFN and only got one follie. This was my first cycle of femara days 3-7 and gonal-f days 8-12 and I got 3 mature follies above 17mm and 5 other ones around 14. I am currently in the 2ww.

Are you trying to TTC?

Hi,

My PCOS is now very mild too (my gynae said last year that it had gone since I had no cysts, but I am prone to weight gain, acne etc when not on the pill!), thanks to lifestyle changes and my pill, however I think my endometriosis may have been to blame for certain things that were attributed to PCOS by doctors over the years! Not ttc - though wish I was. At the moment I am still studying but I would like to start ttc in 2-3 years, though if it accidently happened I would be over the moon!

I'm sorry you are having issues. It is good to get the lap done. It's nearly a month since I had mine and I really can feel a difference. It seems stupid but I absolutely never thought I had endometriosis, it just seemed so unlikely as I was always told you MUST have a) extremely heavy periods and b) more periods than normal, and I was the opposite! I am thankful for all the great ladies on here who are so helpful and explain this stuff since I rarely leave the doctor feeling informed lol!

I'm sorry, I am pretty new to this so all the gonal whatnot you wrote totally went over my head lol!

I used to be told that if I lost weight then my issues with pain etc would go. Well I lost weight, and even when I was really quite thin I had these issues, so it seems that endo hurts either way! Never been on Met, my bmi is under 30 so was refused when I asked for it. Do you find that ovulating makes you feel better or worse? xx
