still trying to find the right dose of Synthroid to manage my hypo.
started on 50mcg, brought my TSH right to the middle of "normal", but I still felt lousy, so the dr. put me up to 75mcg. Tested 3 months later, and now I was hyper - THS was super low. So back to 50mcg, test 3 months later, and here are my labs:
"This new TSH is now a little high but the FT4 is normal. I think you should stay on the 50mcg and re-check end of January again, since the Free T4 is normal."
How can high TSH be okay?

Did you tell your doc you still dont' feel right? I don't see how your doc can be happy with that either. I didn't feel good on sythroid no matter what my labs said, so I asked to be switched to armour and my labs came back good and I felt well. Good luck!
the labs said hyper, AND I was starting to get the hyper symptoms.... fast heartrate, etc. Guessing I should find a new doctor perhaps?
Since Hashi's can swing back and forth between hypo and hyper, the doctor should be listening to your symptoms more than looking at your labs. Perhaps you can try a dosage in between 50 and 75? BTW, even though your FT4 is "normal" I've heard it's better for it to be in the top third of the range, which yours is not.

yes... I've never felt completely "right" since all of this started. The hashi's was triggered by my m/c last december. I never had thyroid issues before then. unfortunately they don't make a dose in between 50 and 75 - I would have to start breaking pills in half I think! Or someone else told me they rotate between 75 and 50 every other day to spread it out.
I guess the synthroid is providing my body with straight T4, and my body is not converting it to T3 so the pituitary gland is sending the signal to make more TSH. I didn't know my T4 should be higher ideally.
I love my family doctor - she has done amazing things for me in the last 5 or 6 years - I really was hoping to hang on to her. But since I moved to another state, we've been doing this by telephone and mail. I went in to physically see her once, so she could examine me and the thyroid, and since then it's all by phone, mostly mail. So I guess I will just have to cut my losses and find a local doctor who will treat me here. She did listen to me the first time I had the bloodwork done - after being on 50, my levels evened out, but I still felt terrible. So she said we still had plenty of room to bring the TSH down, so we upped my dose. That gave me hope that she listened to my symptoms and not just the numbers on the labs. But now with this last one, I'm not so sure.
I'm going to see an RE next week - I will bring all the lab work - not sure how experienced they are with dealing with the thyroid though. I'm just disappointed and frustrated I guess! Thanks for all your input!

Ahhhh, good idea. I have heard of others doing that.

To know whether you're converting or not, they need to test your Free T3. Ideally, it should be at the top of the range, if not slightly above. If you're not, then perhaps they need to add Cytomel (synthetic T3) to your regimen.

It sounds like you're headed in the right direction. I think you'll be in good hands with and RE. I think most of them are pretty good at handling thyroid issues. I know mine is. I'm going to keep seeing her for my thyroid after I'm done having babies and hopefully she'll let me see her though any pregnancies for thyroid.
Just thought I'd share my story since I'm in a similar boat. I just got my last test results that showed TSH 4.8 and free t4 of 1.4 but my dr. still increased my dose from .88 to .112 because she said I should be at the top end of the t4 range. I would also recommend seeing an endocrinologist. I started out being treated by a family dr. but got frustrated very quickly. My endo seems to understand the situation better.
