I had a follow up apointment with my gyn after she got some test results back and she said 'well, everything looks normal', and didnt know what to recommend, she mentioned birth control but when i said "if i do that, things will be just as bad when i come off of it right" and she agreed, so i went back to my normal doc and he recommended me to an endo. I am just really confused why i have irregular periods, excess hair, hairloss, seems like more muscle and harder to lose weight, yet my tests say everything's great?
i should be happy things look good but i just find it frustrating because somthing either isnt showing up or my body isnt complying to what people consider 'normal' normaly. i dunno. anyone else have this?
Did you get copies of your test results??? Lab standards have such a wide range of what they consider 'normal', and they don't necessarily apply to women with PCOS, either. Compare your results to the numbers in section 2.10 of the article in my sig line, then you'll know for sure whether or not they're normal. I trusted my doc with that too, but when I got the copies of my results, I found out they weren't normal at all...

You should get copies of your lab results. Theres a lot of things that labs/docs often dont take into consideration when interpreting the results that can be key to diagnosing pcos. Also, lots of labs have different values and they might not be so normal. Its also possible that although they were in the normal range, they were on the high end.
Do you know why the tests were done on cycle day 2 and not 3? That is what my information says is the best day to run them...
Your results do look quite normal, you even have a LH:FSH ratio of almost 1:1, which is great.
There are some things that should have been tested but weren't:
SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin), fasting Insulin, TSH, total testosterone and prolactin. Can you ask for those tests, especially the fasting insulin? Did you have an u/s of your ovaries done?
I was wondering how long you have been off the pill? That could screw up your 'real' values to the point of looking normal.
You know, if it was me, I would not be satisfied with "I'm not really sure what to do with you, how about I prescribe you the pill" kind of answer. I'd ask for more tests to get to the bottom of this. Obviously something is wrong...
Hope that helps.

I have been to 3 different Dr.'s with all normal results. I am unsatisfied. I went to another OB/Gyn and she is determined to get to the bottom of it. You have to keep looking for a Dr. to take you seriously. It is not normal to go for months with no periods, or serious pelvic pain. She said even if my results come back normal, she doesn't want to put me on the pill, just to keep looking. Probably next they will do an laproscopy. I am still waiting for AF after taking Prometrium for 2 weeks. It has been 6 days off and still no AF. This is not normal. She said she thought it would be 5 days at most until I started. UGH. I have to call back today and see what is up! Please keep talking and looking for answers! Do not give up!

hey thanks! i've never been on the pill, so unfortunatly i can't blame it for things hehe.
they asked me to do it on cycle day 2 or 3 and 3 would have been a sunday with no clinics open.
i'm definatly not satisfied with the pill as an answer when we don't even really know the question.. i think the gyn was expecting me to be alot dumber or somthing.. i asked how you know when you ovulate and she said well when you have a period, and i was like 'no thats not always how it works' and she sais 'no, youre right its not' haha.. ahhh...
i do have another bloodwork apointment set up and am being refered to en endo so i'll mention those other tests you suggested thanks.
some of my test results have changed since the summer so maybe things ARE straightening out, i just don't see it with the symtoms which makes no sense.
Yep...get your testosterone and TSH done for sure. I know you won't be able to get anything other than TSH because I live in Vancouver too and have never gotten anti-bodies, T3, etc. (though I did convince a dr. to do T4 once....."normal" anyways)
I'm curious what endo you're going to....I've only been to one, but have considered changing.....
I recently started seeing a doc that does Vega testing. It's not covered by MSP, so the initial testing is about $150. He's an MD, so he can test and change prescriptions if required. He also uses homeopathic remedies. My main concerns were depression and hairloss. Already, he's helped a lot with the depression. I can give you his info if you're interested.

hey, i havnt got to see an endo yet, only a gyn but my dr is going to be making me an apointment with one soon i guess. I'll let you know if they're any good. Is homeopathic the same as naturalpathic?
what did he use for depression? i am feelin that alot latley and have been loseing hair alot in the past few months, but i'm not sure if the depression thing is life related or hormone related.
Well, homeopathy operates on a "like treats like" principle. So, homeopathic remedies have tiny amounts of a substance that, in large doses, would produce your symptoms. Naturopathic treatment, as far as I know, is basically just the use of natural remedies, diet and the like for treatment.
He's given me EFA supplements, as well as Neurapas. Neurapas is the one that's really helped with my depression. I'm also on Wellbutrin, but had been feeling like it wasn't working. I took the Neurapas for nearly 2 weeks. I felt much better....much more normal than I have in quite a while. It's a combination of St. John's wort, valerian root and passion flower.

cool that does sound interesting. i think i'm just going to stick to my naturalpath guy for a few months and if things don't change for the better by summer maybe i'll get your Drs# off of you, thanks for the reply.. i didn't know if there was anyone else from the lower mainland on here.
Yeah, let me know how it goes with the new endo. I was refered to mine by a derm. but my family doc also uses the same endo. I was starting to feel like she's the only one in Vancouver!
