Default normal TSH, normal T4, high T3

I am so freaking confused right now. Previously I was treated for hypothyroid with Synthroid and Cytomel. I stopped both of those drugs after being seen by a new endocrinologist who did not think it was warranted. He ran some bloodwork with the following results:

T3 FREE 5.3 (marked high by lab)
T4 FREE 1.29
TSH 1.59
Prolactin 6.8

My doctor kind of glossed over it and now does not want to see me for six months to see how Metformin round 3 goes. Is this something to be concerned about? If I'm reading that right, it seems like I'm now HYPERthyroid. How is that possible??

How are you feeling, is the more pertinent question. High free T3 means your body isn't using what it's making. I would want to find out why that is. Can I smack your new Endo? Please? First off, I don't think you should have been taking Synthroid and Cytomel in the first place, but that's my own issue with synthetic meds like those. If you took natural thyroid hormone you would get both T4 and T3 along with the other components the thyroid NORMALLY produces. If your FT3 was high, why didn't he simply lower your dose of Cytomel? Were you feeling better on those meds? I think that is the key question.

What were the ranges on those results? Incidentally Prolactin is controlled by your pituitary also, and it looks low to me but without the range I can't say for sure.

You could use that six months to find a doc who has a freakin' clue. LOL
