I am actually writing this on behalf of my brother and his wife, I live in NY they live in NC. Currently he makes 200 a week, he is in school full time so he doesnt have tons of time to work. His wife stays home with their five month old. They are really struggling to make ends meet, they applied for medicaid and all that stuff, and were told they do not qualify for any of it. I looked up the guidelines for NC and they would have to make less that 600 a month to get anything. Why is this? If it was the federal poverty lines they would get it, and if they lived in NY they would get it...why not there? Thanks to any one who can explain this!
Gosh, I don't know! With a family size of three, it seems like they are wayyy below the poverty line. Did he make a bunch of money on paper "last year?"

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
Nope, between the two of them this past year they made 14,000, I made more than that on my own, not counting my BF salary. They dont know either the state said something about because their apartment was on a college campus? I really dont know!

Yep I live in NC and we have a 6 member family and my dh only makes right at 30,000 and we were told the same. You have to make 600 or less to qualify for adult medicaid. Now their child may qualify, our children did. DH and I are the only ones that don't.
Their son has it, but yeah they don't. Its crazy, I live in NY and they would get some sort of insurance if they lived here medicaid or family health plus. They live in High Point, not sure what county that is. I dont remember the name of his school though, I know he is planning on being a pastor.

I am not sure what county High Point is in either. I am uninsured right now and been looking for somewhere to go to the doctor. I found this site a few nights ago and it may help them. ncfreeclinics.org/ My dad and stepmother had gone to a free clinic in Raleigh and they received alot of help. Maybe if they do a search they can find one in their area. Hope this helps!

Wow. That's bad. There is bound to be a loop hole in NC's Medicaid Guidelines somewhere. Call the federal gov't's department that handles Medicaid for assistance on NC Medicaid --- you'll likely get transferred to regional Medicaid office first. (Suggestion from a friend of mine.)
Another option is discount insurance. Google "affordable health insurance" or "discount health insurance".
