Default North County San Diego?

Hi everyone! I have had NIGHTMARE stories regarding my military Dr's (hubby is a Marine) who are trying to deal (or NOT to deal) with my PCOS, and I am -desperate- to find a good Dr. in north county San Diego, California. I've searched the forum, but everyone I found is south county, and it will be very much over an hour drive for me to get there, and I can't do that (hubby and I have to share a car, transportation nightmares).

Thanks!!

I live in north county, my husband just got out of the Marines not too long ago. I know all about military doctors...they are the reason I was not diagnosed with PCOS earlier! I kept going to the doctors because I was tired, gaining weight, and loosing hair. But of course, they figured that I must just be depressed because my husband was overseas or gone all the time. They wouldn't even do bloodwork, they just kept prescribing me anti-depressants and refered me to a psychologist. I didn't know any better, I just assumed it was in my head, so I kept working out, dieting, etc. with no success. He got out and we got new health insurance, so I found a new doctor that has diagnosed me and is great. While I may not be able to recommend a good military doctor, I can give you some advice, keep pushing your doctors, do not let them ignore you, every treatment facility, whether it's out in town at tri care oceanside, or it's at the hospital, they all have some sort of administrator to complain to. I was treated so horribly by those doctors. I do have a friend whose husband was in the military, she called around and eventually found a "regular" doctor that took tricare insurance, so that's another option, while I don't know of any, I can almost guarantee that any civilian doctor is better than the military ones! I hope this helps! Good luck!

Thanks!!

Well, I don't need a good -military- Dr, because it's a lot easier to get transfered to off-base medical than people would think (I have about 8 friends who have done it recently). Any good name in North County will get me started, and I can at least call and see if they'll accept tricare, if only partially!

My hubby will be military for life, so there's no looking up regarding medical care, really.

I understand about the bad Dr's. My last Dr missed an ectopic pregnancy, ignored my levels of pain, ignored my symptoms, and simply assumed I was acting out in an attempt to get my husband home. That could have killed me, and I should take legal action, but I reaaaally don't want to have to deal with courts, lawyers, and all that (bleh). Not to mention that the Dr totally ignored everything that pointed to PCOS. After the ectopic incident, I was transfered to OB for main care, and it's been a bit better there, but still quite horrible.

See why I want to get off-base asap, tho?

I know exactly what you mean! I have a friend that was thinking of taking legal action. I actually went once because I was drooling, slurring my words, and couldn't remember anything. They did an EKG (why, I don't know), and pulled me into a room by myself and asked me if my husband beat me, when I said no, they referred me to a psychiatrist and called it a panic attack. The next morning, I woke up and found a huge lump on my head, we're guessing I had hit my head and had a concussion! I couldn't remember because I had hit my head, go figure! They are just a law suit waiting to happen! It got so bad, I actually paid for benefits through my job! One of the best decisions I ever made! I don't think my doctor is taking new patients, but I go to Sharp Mission Park over on Cedar Road, I was referred there by a friend, and I have had great experiences there, everyone is so kind and welcoming. I never have to wait and my doctor spends about 30 minutes with me when I go. I can't vouch for any of the other doctors but, from what I've heard they are all pretty good. There is a nurse referral line you can call and you can ask them for a recommendation. That is how I found my doctor. If you go to sharp.com you should be able to find some info, I hope it helps a little, good luck! Let me know how it goes!
