Question Not all of the syptoms....

My SIL has PCOS and she thinks that I should be checked because of some of the symptoms that I have.

I just started looking around at some sites to learn more about PCOS. Some of the syptoms and I have been reading about don't relate to me.

I do have a "ring around my neck" and darker pigment under my breasts.
I also have alot of skin tags ! I HATE THOSE!
Mood swings...I use to take Prozac because I thought I was depressed.
I still feel sad but I try to get myself out of that mood when I can
I am very overweight.
The only diet plans I can lose weight on are low carb plans. And I crave carbs 24/7 LOL!!!
I have very, very heavy periods....I don't like to leave the house the first two days of my cycle.

I don't have a problem with infertility...I have five boys!! I don't have facial hair...well, I have a little mustache but it's blond hair and I've had that for years. I do have a few strands on hair on my chest and some on my lower abdomen they are dark and course.

I know you ladies probably get this question all of the time but what do you think?

I will be going to the Dr's soon. My husband just started a job and his benefits are not acive until the first on next month. So I have to wait until then.

I'm just looking for someone else that didn't have all of the symyptoms but still has PCOS

Thanks,

Chrissy

Most of us don't have all of the symptoms. To complicate things even more, some of us don't even have the tell-tale cysts on our ovaries!

Ask your doc to check you out - your FH:LH ratio is the clue. It should be 1:1 (or very close to it). If it's off, and everything else has been ruled out, it's PCOS. But I think you can have PCOS and still have these numbers match up okay. Confusing, huh?

Basically, you need your doc to rule out everything else before you decide it's PCOS. I think it is, though.

I don't have all the symptoms either, but do have PCOS.

You should also ask your doctor to check your total and free testosterone. High levels are a key indicator of PCOS. And another important test to have is fasting insulin. Many cysters are insulin resistant (IR) - but not all (I'm not). It's important to make sure the test you have is fasting insulin not fasting glucose (blood sugar), because you can have normal glucose and still be IR.

Hope this helps. PCOS is a very variable syndrome. You do have some symptoms, so it's worth getting checked out.

Good luck!

Ditto what the other posts said. You do sound like a pretty good candidate for PCOS. Get to the doctor and find out.
