Unhappy not digesting meds. or food well while on glucophage

Hello, Everybody!

I have been on glucophage xr for about 2 1/2 months. I was on it before and it made me so sick. I went of against my Dr.'s advice. I have been diagnosed PCOS for 4 or 5 year, but I think I have had it since starting my period at age 11. Anyway, I take both of gluc. before bed each night. Lately I have not been digesting my medication. I have always had diareha while on gluc. and had to go quickly after eating. Now though when I go first thing when I wake up there is my meds. whole. I don't know why they are not digesting. My Dr. also put me on phentramine and it seems to be working. So I figure it is digesting. At first I thought that I could have something really wrong and wondered what it was in my bm, but I quit taking it for two days and nothing in bm. Can anyone relate to this. I am sorry to have to be so graphic. I called my Dr. and his nurse is sending me to a gastric Dr. I would like to know what to expect. Please Help!!! Thanks, breann

Hi, I've read on the gluc. board that this is a common occurence. The pills are in a capsule. The med is absorbed, but the capsule isn't, sometimes. Then it fills and looks as though it is whole. Actually, though the med has already done it's thing. Hope that might help

Default don't worry!

Breann,

It's common when taking glucXR to find things in the toilet that don't seem like they should be there. Because it's an extended release tablet, whatever they use to encapsule the medication doesn't always dissolve 100%. You're still getting the medication. It's possible what you're seeing in the morning isn't from the dose from the night before but the night before that. I take my meds about an hour or two after supper, and I get what you're describing in the AM also. They're 24hour tablets, so by the time they dissolve the med then pass through your digestive system....sound right?

I used to have a site that explained what goes on, but I can't find it (I'm on a new computer and I've had to replace all my favorites). If I find it, I'll post it.

Good luck. I hope the XR works better for you. I know it did for me.
