I'm 30. I have 2 girls, 8 and 4 1/2. I was on Depo (I know, God help me!) for about 18 months after each baby. I stopped the Depo in (I think) May of '05 and got my period back sometime approx midway through '06. Somewhere in there, everything just went to compete crap.
I have always been somewhat apathetic and had social anxiety issues and was moderately overweight, but somehow during/after having two kids I ened up with HORRIBLE depression, loads of weight gain, and several other symptoms.
I know I have something going on with my thyroid, I do have a goiter and am seeing an Endo who says I'm hypothyroid (albeit subclinically, since my TSH is barely within range) but holy mother, do I have sympotms. IMO, the symptoms aren't justified by what I'm seeing on my thyroid labs.
Symptoms include:
Intolerance to cold
Cold extremities
Weight gain
Depression
Mood swings (total apathy to rage and back again)
Fatigue (to the point that I routinely sleep 10-12 hours a night)
Dry skin and hair
Keratosis pilaris (not sure what that's from or why I have it)
Irregular and heavy periods (which used to be light and easy and regular)
Swelling of feet & legs
Heart palpitations (a "missed beat" feeling when resting)
Hairs on my breasts, cheeks, lower abdomen and lower back (about 18-20 hairs in total, about half of those on my breasts and a 2-3 in each of the other places)
Brain fog/ADD - can't concentrate or remember squat (took 3 edits just to finish this list!)
Now, as I said, I know that some of these can be attributed to hypothyroid. But for real... my thyroid labs look the same now as they did after baby #1 and a few times since then, so I can see the link with the cold and the apathy and depression and dry skin, but I'm not seeing any reason to have my periods change so drastically since the thyroid seems to have held steady over the years.
I never really kept good track of my periods, but I knew my cycle was always about 30 days, and since coming off the Depo and resuming periods in 06, they have hurt like nothing I've ever felt (except LABOR!) and been easily 4x as heavy (I couldn't soak a pad in a day before, now I can do it in 3 hours) and I just checked to see how long it had been between my last two and realized it had been almost 2 months from the start of one until the next one.
Needless to say, I'm going to ask my Endo what's up with all that (thank goodness I figured this out
before my appt!) but I just wanted to get a quick opinoin or two as to people's thoughts on hypothyroid + PCOS (or whatever you have an opinion on.

)
Thanks all!
