Default Not having to switch BCP every year?

Hey there.

I was diagnosed quite a while ago and was put on Yasmin. Unfortunately all my symptoms came back after about a year, my gyno switched me to seasonique. I was a bit freaked out by the four periods a year, but after about two years of that, my PCOS symptoms came and bit me in the butt again.

Stupid me decided to try to keep off birth control and do it the natural way by diet and exercise. yeah, that worked....rriiiiiggghhhtt. My facial hair growth is almost hard to handle, I break out all the time, I've gained 20 pounds dispite excercising more than I ever have and eating only natural foods, and I've had two pregnancy scares because my normally abnormally heavy period decided to take a vacation.

So I've decided to come here for some support. I know everyone has a different reaction but has any of you ladies had a good long run with a birth control they like? I just want a birth control that I can take without spending a fortune and not having to switch to another to cover up my unwanted symptoms. (mostly heavy periods, intense cramps, and acne. Weightloss would be a plus, but isn't really on my top priority)

also- I plan on going on spironolactone for my hair growth, but haven't really considered metformin because my bloodtests have come back decent and I wasn't overweight until I decided to quit birthcontrol.

Thanks girls
Meghan

A little bit about myself: I have PCOS/endometriosis/HPV. I'm 21 years old. I'm pre-diabetic. I have the worst cramps on the planet! Without birth control, my periods are extremely heavy and last usually last for 3 weeks, I'm off for 1, then they start back up again. I eat healthy, and work out a few times a week(or try to LOL). I'm 5'6" 150lbs. The hair on my head is very thin. I've never had acne and have 0 kids. Now with that being said, this is my experience with BCP's..

Each BCP works differently for every woman, I've been on 5-6 different BCP's myself; including Loestrin24,Yaz,Ortho-tricyclen lo, ovcon, and I can't remember the others to be honest lol. My favorite by far was Loestrin 24. I'm on Yaz right now, but will be switching BCP's today due to some bad side effects I suddenly started having while taking it(migraines, nausea, ear pain).

I was on Loestrin for about a year and had no side effects, and my cycles were ALMOST regular, regular being 7-9 days for me. lol I'd still be taking it today, but the military pharmacy doesn't carry it. I've been considering going offbase and just paying out of pocket for it, as I'm nervous as to what BCP my doc is going to recommend next (I have a phone consult with him today). I still had cramps while on Loestrin, but I think the cramps are just something i have to deal with until I have my first child (my mom had the same problem until she gave birth to me). I still take Naproxen for cramps, which doesn't even get rid of them. All of the other BCP's I tried, were for a few months, but my periods were still 2-3 weeks long, so I took a break and then switched to the next BCP.

Best of luck to you on your choice and l hope you can find one that works for you!
