Not IR, but prescribed Met. Will it help me lose weight?
I was diagnosed with PCOS in May '07 after going to my doc because of a sudden unexplained 60 lb weight gain. My Dr. did all of my blood work, and it showed that I wasn't IR.
I went back to my Dr. today to change my BC (side effects were killing me), and she said she wanted to put me on Met as well. Since I'm not IR, will my 500mg Rx of Met help me lose this weight?

I'm not IR either. I was at the very tip top of my weight scale when I started it back in 2005. I lost 30 lbs in 3 months on 1500 mg of Met plus I started eating like a diabetic, too. I'm sure both helped with the weight loss.
I just had a baby in May and was only on Met for the 1st trimester. I gained 37 lbs by wk 31 of the pregnancy (premature baby at 31 wks) and immediately lost 17 lbs, but have started gaining weight fast recently. My PCOS symptoms have started to come back now, too. Dr put me on Met again ... starting at 500 mgs then will ease up to 1500 again.

How are you doing?

Melody, your daughter is beautiful! Im about to start met again and am really scared about the side effects. Once you have worked up to the maximum dose, do you know if you can take all pills at once or do you have to spread them out over the day? I cant remember.....
if you are taking the extended release (ER) then yes, you can take it all at one time. that's the way i would take it. i had no side effects at all. hth
