Question not losing weight with met

I have been on Met for 6 weeks or so and I really dont think I have lost any weight, except for about 3 lbs the first week. Has this happened to anybody else? I was hoping that I would lose some so this is kind of depressing. I have been practicing a low carb lifestyle for quite some time now and I do exercise. One thing I can add about the Met is that I get so weak (I guess from low blood sugar?) that I find myself having to sip on more cokes and munch on more crackers. I used to be fine with water and going hungry..lol. Also, I probably have less weight than most to lose, only about 20 lbs or less. Im not too upset about my body now, just want to see if I can lose some before we really get in to TTC. I have just increased my dose to 1500. If I dont lose with this dose we will probably just begin TTC. Or should I try 2000??? Just curious if anybody else is going through the same thing.

Met never helped me lose any weight. I only saw small results from cutting alcohol, sugar and most carbs, even the good ones. And I have to watch the fat intake as well. It's a lot of work to be obsessive about every ounce of food, but it does work.

Your Met dose probably won't have a much impact as cracking down on your diet and exercise routine - especially since you don't have much weight to lose.

I have had a hard time losing weight and I have a lot to lose. I was on 500 mg once per day and my Doc upped it to 500 mg twice per day to see if that would help. I started the 1000 mg a month ago and have lost only 2.2 lbs. However, I'm really happy to have just lost that. It's been so hard to lose anything at all.
I wish I could offer up some great words of wisdom, but I'm really frustrated with it myself!

I started Met in May & lost 10 lbs right off the bat, with no diarreah or any of those nasty side effects. BUT- I quit smoking in July & have since gained 15!! Aye aye aye, this stinks! My doc swears it's ok & that I'll lose it fast as soon as I set my mind to it. Ha, I think he's just happy I quit the cigs. I def need to lay off the carbs & get back on track. Like you I'd like to lose about 20. GOOD LUCK, WE CAN DO IT!

I have been on met since 9-9-08 and have not lost any weight and my doc said that I would lose 20lbs in the first two months. But I haven't really been watching what I eat either- and I have had no other side effects other than dandruff which I have never had in my life. HTH

i am extremely glad to have found this post - i thought i was the only person on earth that didnt experience magical weightloss on met, and I take 2000 mg a day!

Why??? I was so excited when my dr started me on it cause I really thought it would help me lose weight.

Hello all,

Well, Metformin is not the magic pill to make you lose weight. The whole point of being on Metformin for our condition is to ease the strain on our Pancreas's, as well as keeping our blood sugar in check.

Also, being on a LOW CARB diet does not keep the weight off for a prolonged period. The IR Diet was the best thing for me. You eat good food, and occasionally have other foods, but the idea is that you must LINK and BALANCE your foods to control the amount of sugar entering the blood stream. You should definitly look for the IR Diet thread. It'll help you!

So, take Met/Glu start the IR DIET or whatever diet you wish, and work out regularly to keep your heart healthy and to lose all excess weight. That's the only way to do it, no magic pills here. Just blood, sweat and tears (sorry for the drama).

Everytime I increase my dosage I gain weight because I swell...no idea why then it will level itself out again but I have not lost any weight due to the Met alone.
