Just curious, share what? I have excess hair and I'm not on any meds for it. Do you want to know how I deal with it? Not quite sure what you are asking.

Hi!
Read Cat Carneys post on B6 and hirsutism.
If you`re not on medications I guess you are trying the natural way?
I`m not on medications either, but thats because the doctors can`t find out what`s wrong with me.
I have the cysts on my left ovarie, but normal testresults,I have the hair, most of it on my body and I seem to loose some on my head.
I have af every 5 week, don`t know if I ovulating though..
I`m also a thin cyster,so reducing syptoms by lowering my weight is not an option for me.
if you're not on meds, please share your experience in the ff:
- has the hair gotten worse?
- what do you find helps control the hair growth?
- what do you do to control it?
any other experiences you are willing to share...
here's mine:
- i was on diane 35 for 2 mos w/ch i then stopped for aldactone for 3 mos.
- i stopped aldactone and have been med-free for about a month now.
- i limit my refined sugar intake - i find that this helps with the fatigue
- i am trying yoga to see if it will help.
- i am also going to try to resume my treadmill walks everyday for at least 30 mins.
hopefully, these "hair-combatting" strategies will work.
I am not taking anything for the hirsutism except for yasmin bcp right now.I cannot take aldactone anymore and i tried flutamide but had bad side effects from it.The hair growth is not as bad as it was years ago.But i was on aldactone for 5 years and it seems to have gotten rid of alot of it and i think the yasmin is helping control some of it without the aldactone.I still have to shave my belly and toes and fingers and hands. The facial hair that i get is white so i pluck it out with tweezers but there is alot of it so there is no way to pluck all of it.I am afraid to shave it.My face constantly looks white and fuzzy.I have had every test imaginable including my adrenals tested and everything comes back as being normal so my hair growth and acne are from over sensitive follicles. But i do have severe insulin resistance so this could be some of the problem. My doctor wants me on glucophage but i tried and it was pure hell so now im trying to diet and exercise and see if that improves things because i dont have any other choices as far as meds go.My body is just too sensitive.

I've got excess facial hair and I'm not on any meds. You could probably say that I have excess (I prefer 'above average') body hair too but it's not enough to bother me. I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS but after reading posts on this board, I find that I have quite a few PCOS 'symptoms'. My facial hair being the biggest one. I'm getting closer and closer to a full beard. Ugh!! I've never been to a doctor for my hirsutism either. When it started, I was shocked, but every year I kept hoping it would slow down and go away. Never did. Well, 7 years later I'm at the point where I don't think I could handle *sharing* this with a doctor & staff. And more importantly, I honestly don't think a doc could do more than I could on my own and I do NOT want to be on any meds or go through endless testing that might not even shed light on the situation. If I'm willing to read the literature/info that's out there and if I can understand it, I think I'll be alright. PCOS is a condition with more questions than answers anyway.
I believe health is a natural body state. And I think that my body is trying to tell me something through my hirsutism. I haven't been able to control my hirsutism yet (I don't doubt that I WILL eventually). I have been able to regulate my period and considerably decrease/sometimes eliminate PMS through diet though. I cut out refined sugar, white flour, and cut down on meats, dairy, and products containing partially hydrogenated oils. I also increased my consumption of whole grains (bulger wheat, barley, whole grain flours, buckwheat, etc. )and vegetables (raw & cooked).
Right now I'm doing my own research on how hormones in animal products affect our health. I skimmed something on the internet last night about how estrogen was given to some animals (chickens maybe??) for ??? reason. Anyways, I just wondered if the hormones in animal products I consume could be a major factor in my apparent hormone imbalance. I posted a thread in the Diet/Exercise section titled "Vegan diet & hirsutism". Kat Carney posted a reply and told how she switched to hormone free products and saw a dramatic reduction in hirsutism. I stopped eating meat and dairy products 4 days ago and I'll continue like this as I educate myself on the whole meat and dairy industry. I haven't found any great articles on the subject in Medscape.com or Medline, but I'm still looking. Right now I plan to read John Robbin's "Diet for a New America". Heard that was a classic on this topic. I'll definitely share any success stories.
I am 25 years old. I first started noticing the hairs during my senior year in high school, age 17. It started as a few extra chin hairs. Didn't think too much of it. It just annoyed me and I got a Remington electric razor to deal with it. Over the years it's gotten worse, covering most of my neck, going to my jawline..... Back in Janurary of this year I noticed the hairs on my cheek going from soft & downy to thick, dark and noticeable. That scared me b/c I thought, "Oh my God it's spreading!". I mean, how much worse can it get? This can't go on forever. I plucked them out at first, but it got worse really fast and I had to resort to shaving. My sideburns started getting thicker around the same time. I actually like my sideburns, but I don't like them thick. And about two weeks ago, I noticed my sideburns starting to connect to my cheeks. GASP!! That right there gave me a new reason to hit the internet once again and find a way unravel this hair mystery naturally. I tried Saw Palmetto for a short while in college. After I gave it up I read that you have to take it for about 6 months before noticing any results. Oops. Weight loss didn't help. At my heaviest (age 17), I was a 5'6, 210, and a size 18/20. By the time I graduated college, I was 185 and a size 12.
I will definitely share any interesting/possibly helpful information I come across in my search. I hope you do the same. Take care.
I have had a 'moustache' since I was a teenager (14-15). i use to a counselor at a daycamp and the kids would ask me why I have a moustache like their daddy. It has gotten worse in the last couple of years. The only thing I do is pluck or wax (I just started that.). The hair just usually doesn't bother me.

I have the "sideburns" and I've noticed them slowly spreading but it hasn't gotten to the point that I think I should get meds for it. I was thinking about going on Yasmin though to ensure that it wouldn't get worse.
I use Nair on my upper lip and I shave my toes and belly everytime I shave my legs.
I used to just think that my hair was the way it was because I have dark brown hair and it was just more visible than blonde hair.... but now i know the reason.
I just started on Glucophage so I can't report any differences that has or hasn't made yet.
"to all of you - would you recommend going on meds or do you think that a healthy diet and exercise would solve the problem?"
I don't think there is only one route to a *cure*. Some may find that diet & exercise (and any other lifestlye change) alone works well, others may find that meds w/o diet & exercise change works well, and still others may find that a combination of the two works wonders. I believe it all depends on the individual. If you read some of the many posts to this message board, you'll see that different methods work for different people.
I'm choosing the "healthy diet and exercise" route, along with the most positive and optimistic attitude that I can create . Mainly b/c of my attitude toward health and healing.
People's ideas of what constitutes a 'healthy' diet varies. My idea of a healthy diet is one that includes natural foods/foods straight from the earth in as pure a form as possible (& practical). I try to limit my intake of refined/processed foods. I've had success in the past with diet change and *healing* minor ailments. I believe that good nutrition is the best medicine and that I can alleviate/hopefully eliminate my hirsutism by first changing my diet.
I believe that the body is always working toward good health and that our bad habits can hinder the body's 'self healing' process. I also believe that your body will give you clues as to how to help yourself regain good health. Through inspiration, intuition, urges to do/change something or WHATEVER.
