DD has been on YAZ for a month and just started metformin 10 days ago. She has had some stomach upset, but overall is really trying to eat regular, balanced meals. One thing I have noticed is that she is changing shape. She looks more feminine in shape as well as leaner through the shoulders and waist. Her upper arms are thinning a bit. Her skin is glowing and she seems a little more mellow! She is 17 and that is a hard age all on its own with out the added PCOS issues!
Any one else experienced these changes? I was wondering if it is the met or the yaz or the combo??
Definetly normal. My hormones were stubborn and took a long time to move, but over time I did change a lot in my body shape...less of a linebacker!
Tell your Daughter to be patient...it's obvious the drug is having a positive effect, and as her hormones start to lower, the weight will follow suit. And remember studies show that insulin is improved even before the scale moves.
She's on the right track!

LOL They did a study with metformin+flutamide+Yasmin (YAZ wasn't out quite yet but it's just Yasmin with half the estrogen) & the gals invovled with the study did lose weight but more importantly they changed shape also--waist reduction, more normal waist-to-hip ratio. It's probably the combo of the two. Flutamide is an antiandrogen but if you don't need it don't do it. It's just what the studies were done with.
A control study with met+flut+other-bcp-not-Yasmin did NOT show such good results; they didn't lose weight nor did they change shape. So I'd stay on with that YAZ--don't switch her!
This is all interesting to me...I will be trying YAZ next year I think, so it's good to hear that it isn't causing people to balloon up too much (like some pills grrr).

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
I am on met and I have noticed that i have a waist again. It was strange for my DH to tel me that I was getting smaller, I said I havent lost more then 10lbs. But then I noticed that my pants fit a bit better in the waist.

I can actually say that DH was first to notice changes. Before I lost more than 5 lbs, I lost lots of inches around my midsection. They have since then shifted to my rear (butt is more shapelier). But, before I got too sick on Met I was a lot better about hitting the gym. Now I'm lucky if I can tolerate walking a full hour like I use to AFTER I left the gym.
