Hi everyone. I was a member of this site, and have been even though I wasn't active. My last visit was at the end of 2004 and today I logged in and updated a lot of my info. I would like to jump back in and become an active member of the site again.
A few things have changed since I was last here.
I no longer live in Michigan, I'm out in Las Vegas now. I have a great boyfriend, we have been together for two and a half years. He's very good about understanding problems and issues related to the PCOS.
This is a long introduction to myself and my PCOS story. Feel free to read it, but it is quite long, so it's completely understandable if some of you choose not to.
I've had PCOS since I started puberty. When I was 13 I had a few periods, never on time, occasionally a couple months apart. Around Christmas I had a period, and didn't have another one until the following Christmas. My mother, doctors and myself all knew something wasn't right, but none of us knew what exactly the problem was. I had a couple doctors try to fix the menstruation problem by giving me pills, but they still didn't know why I wasn't able to menstruate on my own. I wasn't very happy with that, so I started doing a little research of my own. If they couldn't tell me what was wrong with me, and they didn't really care to know either, then I would do it on my own.
Long story short, I came across some information about PCOS. I further researched it and knew thats what it was, everything was finally coming together. I got a different doctor and spoke to her in great length about the possibility of PCOS, and she completely agreed.
Due to some kidney stones that I was having, I ended up being in and out of the hospital quite a bit for about 6 months. I had a stent placed between my kidney and my bladder, so I was in great pain and limited to what I was able to do. Throughout this experience I lost a bit of weight. I went from close to 215lbs down to 185lbs. About the time that my weight was at it's lowest, my medications and amounts were all figured out to the best for my body and I was able to continue losing a little more weight. I am currently not working out or dieting, but being able to maintain the weight that I am at is very comforting. I have long believed that I gained all the weight growing up because of the PCOS. I was always an active child and young adult. I never really ate large quantities of food, so it never made sense that I was a heavy person.
