Hi everyone! I'm Nikki and I'm new this this site, but not to PCOS. I've been looking for a site like this for awhile and it looks like I found one.
I was diagnosed with PCOS by in 2001. I haven't been able to take the time to research more abou PCOS, due to family issues, school, work, and other stressful and time consuming situations. Due to the situation in I'm now (read later in the post), I figured it's time to do some looking and trying to take some control and also try to lose some weight in the process. Plus, I just realized how much PCOS has effected my life.
Like I said before, I was diagnosed in 2001 at the age of 16. I'm 22 now. So far as I've read, like a few of you, I was never really educated on what PCOS was or even more, what to do about it or for it, except takin BC to regulate my monthly cycle. I thought PCOS (or Stein-Leventhal Syndrome as my dr's term for it) was a medical term that my dr. used to explain my almost non-existant cycle. My dr. really didn't give me much info or options. All he said was if I wanted children, then we would discuss it when I was older and ready for children. I've found a guy that I want to marry and have children with, so I'm ready to start taking steps, losing weight, etc to just do that.
I've taken (forgive me my mind went blank) the med that's jump starts your cycle just for 10 days and only once, and then the rest time, it has been BC until just till about a year ago. That's when I had to quit my job to take care of my grandparents, whom health is failing pretty fast, which in turn, I lost all of my insurance.
When it comes to PCOS, I'm a little uncomfortable talking about it. You see I'm from a small town in AL and most people here wouldn't be as supportive as much I've seen that you all seem very helpful and very supportive, so bear with me on some things. And thanks for being here!
