Hi all! My name is Megan. I am 23 years old and I was diagnosed with PCOS at 19. Even though I was diagnosed 4 years ago, I was never really educated about what it was or what I could do about it. I pretty much thought it was just a title the doc gave to explain my sporadic cycle. It wasn't until about a year ago that I met another lady with PCOS and I realized just how much it was effecting my life. (the excessive hair growth in odd places, dark spots in arm pits and around neck, quick weight gain, and no luck on traditional diets).
I spent the last year researching and finding a new doctor. I finally have a great OB/GYN who has me on Metaformin XR (500 mg 2xs a day) and Proverra (only the first 10 days of each month to assist in regulating my cycle). I dieted in WW all summer and fall, but found that it didn't work for me. I am finally over the discouragement (I did WW with a friend who doesn't have PCOS. We ate the exact same number of points and types of food. In 5 months she lost 35 pounds, while I lost 5.) After that, I realized that reacting to food is just another things my body does different due to IR and PCOS. So, I order the Natural PCOS and Infertility Diet book. Tomorrow will be my first day. Since it's a very restrictive diet, I have vowed to try it 100% to the letter for 30 days. We will see if this works!
Now that you know my PCOS history, I guess a little detail on who I am would be nice (lol). I am 23 and happily married for a little over 2 years. DH is very supportive of me and understanding of my issues with PCOS. We have filled our home with pets (our parenting preperation for future babies!). We are proud parents to the furkids: Leven and Jager (dogs), Zoe (cat), and Calvin and Hobbes (bunnies). I am in my junior year of college finishing up my B.S in Parks and Recreation Management. Pending this weight loss, DH and I are hoping to start TTC later this year.
Sorry that was long winded. I have been lurking around for a while and finally got the nerve to post!
