Default Not As New to PCOS....New to Board!

Hi all! My name is Megan. I am 23 years old and I was diagnosed with PCOS at 19. Even though I was diagnosed 4 years ago, I was never really educated about what it was or what I could do about it. I pretty much thought it was just a title the doc gave to explain my sporadic cycle. It wasn't until about a year ago that I met another lady with PCOS and I realized just how much it was effecting my life. (the excessive hair growth in odd places, dark spots in arm pits and around neck, quick weight gain, and no luck on traditional diets).

I spent the last year researching and finding a new doctor. I finally have a great OB/GYN who has me on Metaformin XR (500 mg 2xs a day) and Proverra (only the first 10 days of each month to assist in regulating my cycle). I dieted in WW all summer and fall, but found that it didn't work for me. I am finally over the discouragement (I did WW with a friend who doesn't have PCOS. We ate the exact same number of points and types of food. In 5 months she lost 35 pounds, while I lost 5.) After that, I realized that reacting to food is just another things my body does different due to IR and PCOS. So, I order the Natural PCOS and Infertility Diet book. Tomorrow will be my first day. Since it's a very restrictive diet, I have vowed to try it 100% to the letter for 30 days. We will see if this works!

Now that you know my PCOS history, I guess a little detail on who I am would be nice (lol). I am 23 and happily married for a little over 2 years. DH is very supportive of me and understanding of my issues with PCOS. We have filled our home with pets (our parenting preperation for future babies!). We are proud parents to the furkids: Leven and Jager (dogs), Zoe (cat), and Calvin and Hobbes (bunnies). I am in my junior year of college finishing up my B.S in Parks and Recreation Management. Pending this weight loss, DH and I are hoping to start TTC later this year.

Sorry that was long winded. I have been lurking around for a while and finally got the nerve to post!

Hi,
I'm 32 yrs old with similar story with diet. I joined ww I've lost count so many times and give up as in the 1st week I manage to lose about 3 lbs for some reason, then I stick to the points religiously, and get weighed and I'm up two llbs then I give up out of the embarassment. I seem to be piling on the lbs the last few yrs but the older I get the quicker its piling on. All I know is when I am on the contraceptive pill I dont pile on the lbs unless I've been overeating which is fine. When I was pregnant I lost weight in the first 3 mths so in total I gained 14lbs in 37 weeks. Now my son is 10 mths old and I'm almost the same weight I was when I had him, its so frustrating as I eat sensibly. I am not perfect but do not deserve to be overweight. I need to lose a min of 2stone 3 if I'm able. I'm on 500mg of metformin for the last 6 weeks. I haven't lost weight but seem to have a bit more energy. By the way I have M.E. so the most I can do is graded exercise, keep within my limits, listen to my body etc. I am going to hopefully speak with my doctor tomorrow and ask can I take an extra 500 mg of metformin a day and see if that helps and in the mean time be referred to an endocrynologist. Its very unlikely that I will ever conceive naturally so even thinking of trying the pill also but I have a bit of what if there was a chance of an other baby natural. I dont mind doing IVF, and I plan to do it next year maybe. I feel so lucky I have 1 child as really thought it would be a miracle if IVF worked for us as there was more than PCOS.
I would be very interested in how u get on with your new diet as u sound like me as in forever trying to lose weight and getting nowhere so frustrating.
I have been having lots of fluid retention also every night. I have endometriosis, IBS, severe panic attacks, PCOS, and very sore muscles from the M.E..
Good luck with the diet
