This is my 4th Clomid cycle. I'm up to 150mg now and I"m still not ovulating.
I ovulated once and that was back in April on 100mg and then nothing in May on 100mg.
I just had a sonohysterogram last week and both tubes are open and everything looks good.
Why on Earth am I not ovulating on Clomid?

I am so sorry you are not ovulating. Some women do not respond to clomid, and some it takes a while to respond. Are you going to do another round? Are you on metformin also? Gl EDIT- never mind, I see you are on met.

Thank you so much for the response!
I appreciate it a lot
My ob/gyn is puzzled with my case. That doesn't make me feel very confident.
He's giving up on me if I'm not pregnant by the end of August I just don't know what to do.
I'll be on 150mg again next cycle again but it seems like a huge waste of money.
PCOS sucks!

I never ovulated on clomid or Letrozole either.
It wasn't until I started on injectibles did I start ovulating.
I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do next.
I saw your post and could not help but throw in my two cents since I have been through the EXACT same thing. Yes, obviously you are not responding to the Clomid, but the reason may be that you are having an insufficient LH surge. Your LH has to surge and once that surge is detected, you will more than likely ovulate within the next 24 hours (or so I have been told and read). Is your doctor checking your follicle size with ultrasounds? Is he/she doing any kind of blood work to monitor hormone levels like estrogen, progesterone, and LH? I would seriously be questioning him if he is not doing these things. If they just did testing of your LH level at least, that would tell them that you are not having a sufficient LH surge and that they should take measures to help you out. They can give you a trigger injection of either Ovidrel 250mcg or Hcg to make you have an artificial (but effective!) LH surge. I was not surging on my own enough after doing 50, 100, then 150mg of Clomid, so finally at the 2nd round of 150mg they saw insufficient LH surge and had me do the Ovidrel injection and lo and behold, I got pregnant (although later miscarried at 10 weeks due to insufficient progesterone level, even with being on 600mg of supplemental!). So, I would really speak my mind with your doctor as ask about the testing and the ultrasound monitoring. Feel free to post again and let me know what you have been doing with ultrasounds and tests so that I might be able to give you more exact help with why you aren't responding to the Clomid. I am not a medical professional by a long shot, but after having been diagnosed with this 13 years ago and been TTC for over 3 years now with trying different treatments, I feel that I should help others out with my two cents when and if I can. Another word of advice...you might want to mention to your doctor about Avandia, another insulin-sensitizing agent similar to Metformin but in another drug class. I did not ovulate on Metformin at all, and still did not ovulate on the Clomid or even have a cycle on any of that. HOWEVER, I just started on Avandia 8mg a day a little over two weeks ago and already got a period which is really unbelievable for me...it has been 12 years since that has happened, so now I am going to start testing for ovulation (since there was really no point before since I was not ovulating at all). You might just want to bring this up...just some food for though. Best of luck to you and I hope you get some satisfaction from your doctor. If not, I say move on...he should not give up on you that easily!

I am in a similar predicament.
I O'd my first cycle of clomid (100) on day 13.
Now I am on my 2nd cycle (also 100) and nothing!
I was sure it was going to work again.
I guess we can't count on our bodies acting the same way to the same medication. I'm moving on to 150 next cycle with fingers crossed. I know how frustrating it is. Even though I know there are other methods to try if clomid doesn't work, I REALLY want the clomid to work! NOW!!
Best wishes and baby dust...
years ago when I was on clomid I o'd according to blood work. Only the past few years when I switched docs the new doc did Ultra sounds on cd 12. Found out that the three eggs were starting but didn't fully develop with the 100mg of clomid. I ended up having to take injections on cd 12, 13 and 14 which gave me one viable egg and then a we did a testing on cd 15 found my hormones were not high enough to release the egg so I had to do a trigger shot (HCG). I did not become pregnant but I O'd.
Then due to our transfer I had to stop all treatments. Now that we are at the new duty station they won't do the treatments here I would have to pay for treatments out in town.
Hope this may help.

hi i have been waiting for a post like this for some time, why i didn't start it i don't know. i do have a question, snoozer you were talking about trigger shots, but i'm assuming that magpiemaggie you never even produced follies to warrent a trigger shot? because this is what i did. i had one nice size follie on CD15 on my 2nd round of clomid (20mm), and then nothing on the next round, we added .5 of dex to the mix. so re upped it to 150mgs of clomid. and nothing for 2 rounds at that level. we then went to letrozole 2.5 mgs and still no follies. so the next step was injectable bravelle, for 28 days, and no follies. so due to financial and emotional reasons, i toyed around with some herbal meds for a month, and then took a break for a month. we tried to jumpstart af this cycle with progesterone pills for 7 days and then a withdrawal, no af, then a progesterone and oil injection, waited 2 weeks, no af. so re decided that today can be cycle day 3, and i'm starting on letrozole 2.5mgs and clomid 150 mgs for CDs 3-7. my re has also told me that i am his most "interesting" pcos patient that he has. which i don' t think is a good thing. i would much rather be normal and responsive, but he's never given up on me. i would worry if your dr said that to you magpie, and maybe look for a new one that likes a challenge. because that is definatly what we are. good luck ladies, and we're praying that we'll need that hcg trigger this round.
baby dust to all....................................

I was reading through these posts and thought maybe I would have something to add. My husband and I lost a baby in May of 2008. I started having my period the following month and I never ovulated. I took clomid and still nothing. I had one cycle of clomid left and never got to take it because I stopped having my period. Which leads to my point...
I hadn't had my period for 5 months and I can't even tell you how discouraging it was, so I started doing research on inducing menstruation and ovulation, and I ran across alot of information about foods that could help. One of the foods that was suggested numerous times was broccoli. So I figured what the hell....I don't mind the vegetable so I started eating it everynight with dinner. I kid you not..after one week I was ovulating again and two weeks after that I started my menstrual cycle. Everything I have read about PCOS and infertility says different things and I am not a professional by any means, however, I do know that if your body doesn't have enough nutrients, vitamins, water and so on it will not work properly. Who knows if it will work for anyone else, but it did for me, and I feel that even if it doesn't work at least I let someone know what worked for me.
I know how it feels when the pressure is on trying to conceive, but I also know how much more pressure there is when you know your husband will be deploying soon also. My next step was an infertility doctor which can be quite expensive ...what I am getting at...anything is worth a try.
My RE said that in PCOS either your ovaries do 'nothing' or they do 'everything' (meaning they can get overstimulated) so each cycle has an unpredictable outcome.
I don't really have any advice, just wanted you to know you're not alone! I'm starting 200mg of Clomid this month and will do injectables after that if not succesful. I wish you the best of luck! Keep us updated!
I saw your post and I could tell you were frustrated. And I just wanted to write you some.. I also have been frustrated to see and feel like clomid is not working, All I wanted to say to you is to patient, IT WILL HAPPEN! - Keep saying that, if 100mg doesnt work then you will take a higher dosage, Now: the fact that your dr seems puzzled by it, trust me is because all of our doctors are puzzled by pcos. Just have faith! And baby dust to you
Im starting to get frusterated and very emotional. I need some advice on what to do here. After the birth of my daughter in sep of 08 is when it all started. Not because of her but because the doc did not remove all my placenta. Well after two D&C's, firing the original doc and almost 6 months later it was sorta fixed. Well we are trying to get pregnant again because the new doc said that because they left it in there so long I now have endometriosis and possibly adenymiosis. He said I have to have a hysterectomy because of the aden. but wants us to get prego to try and rid my body of the endo. Well we have been on Clomid and I had grapefruit sized folicles but when I went in for my blood test I did not ovulate. I did have an LH surge but no eggs popped out. Im just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I am also on pain pills I do not take them every day but when I start hurting I have to take them for a day or 2, could this be causing me to not ovulate also?
Some people just don't respond to Clomid. I was actually reading an article that said that about 25% of PCOS patients are "Clomid resistant". My RE started me on 50mg of Clomid with zero results. She has now upped my dosage to 100mg and we are keeping our fingers crossed! Don't let your doctor give up on you! If your doctor is not willing to work with you and find another medication that can help, you need to give up on that doctor. I know it is frustrating trying to find a good RE in your area, but it is worth it. My RE specializes in PCOS and I feel like even though PCOS is horrible, we are treating it with the best methods possible. Don't give up, wishing you all the best!
