A FRIEND

I have a friend unlike any other
she has a boyfriend of another color
my friend and her parents argue and fight
all she hears is "It's not right!"

I have a friend who thought she was in love
her boyfriend was all she would speak of
but to the side she was tossed
after her virginity was lost

I have a friend who is single after a year
she felt bored and monotnous when she looked in the mirror
"I need a change" she thought
so an older man was who she sought

I have a friend far from the norm
at her highschool she was forced to conform
she got frustrated and took her own life
not with a gun but a rusty old knife

I have a friend that was being abused
"I feel on the step" was an excuse she used
"she started it" he accuses
but she was the one left with the bruises

I have a friend thats gorgeous and sweet
she's every guys dream; she can't be beat
no where inside lie any proof of being innocent
for drugs and alcohol is where she spent every last cent

I have a friend smarter than most
she holds her books o' so close
those her only friends
mostly because she doesn't fit in

I have a friend who tops them all
she's the one with padding on her walls
although she's there I feel she's getting stronger
for she can hurt herself no longer

Nikki- the guy I lost my virginity to was 6 yrs older and a different race
I drank a lot in HS on the weekends with friends
and then went to church on Sunday feeling guilty for my lifestyle
I was molested by a distant relative from age 6 up and felt guitly about that as well
always felt like when I got older I could have stopped it, but you never understand about that unless you have lived it-you dont like it but it is all you know
My mom had custody of me and when I was 9 she had an awful wreck-she was not killed in it, but she had a massive head injury, which caused a stroke and left her disabled for 20 years, until she died of pneumonia
My aunt raised me and was a control freak/perfectionist-I know she loved me, but she rarely said it or gave hugs

It was not until my DH came along that I realized what unconditional love is all about-If ever there were a human example of God's love for us-He is it! Mind you, he could be more romantic, but he always forgives, and he tries his very best to understand, even when I dont understand myself!

WOW, it almost sounds like this poem was written for you! I am sorry to hear of all you have been through but it is a blessing to find the love of your life. I never believed in soul mates until I found mine! I am so happy that you have a wonderful DH in your life to support you!

I had given up on men when I fell for DH-I had just broken up with a guy in january the yr we started dating in February! But I had no intentions of saying I love you first-I always got burned with that-They new they had me where they wanted me if I said that-so poor DH, said I love you and I had to say, I cant say that right now because i dont want to get hurt-but he gave me time and space and I am so glad he is so patient with me still-we will be married 13 yrs in Dec

i feel the same way! Thats why i wrote this about my life!! Most of those "freinds" are/were actually me!!
