Well, today oficially began week 2 of met. The SE are definitely not what I expected. Not only do I not have diarrhea, but the exact opposite.... but I think that's because my eating habits changed in a big hurry. About the only thing that I can even consider eating is dairy. Absolutely nothing with carbs or sugar sounds at all appealing and it's almost a given that I gag if I so much as smell something sugary. I've had to force myself to eat a slice of bread with some peanut butter to get just a little fiber. So I've been eating a whole lot of cheese, slices of lunchmeat, and cottage cheese.... ohhhhh.... and the strangest part.... the only sweet thing I consider eating is chocolate- I have never liked chocolate (I know, I'm strange...) but it actually has kinda helped when my stomach starts getting upset...
Is any of this normal??? I know everyone's reaction to the drug are different, but this just seems so strange to me. I keep thinking that all the bad for me stuff would get me at least eating something, but seriously, there is a pint of Ben & Jerry's in my freezer that has been there a week! That has never ever happened before! I did eat a donut this morning (it was before the met), but it was simply because it was the only thing available and I was starving- it tasted good, but my cravings and desires for stuff like that are completely gone. Given the choice between that and cottage cheese, I would have picked the cottage cheese. How strange is that?
Am I losing my mind here???? Thanks for any insight!

Several ladies starting out have said they don't have side effects on 500. Count yourself lucky!
It's definetly normal to see a change in what you crave. It's like your body suddenly likes how it feels with regulated insulin, and I don't crave the big plates of pasta and potato chips I used to anymore either...they turn my stomach now. Chalk it up to your new and improved endocrine system!
Continued success!

I had the exact same s/e. Unfortunately, some didn't last. I am back to smelling sugar and carbs that aren't even there...
For the other problem, I bought GNC's 'gentle' iron supplement that is easily absorbable. It really helped. I hear other iron supplements don't dissolve right and just stick to you intestines making digestion really difficult. Give it a try, it worked for me. And do eat as much fiber as you can handle. It will also help foods break down more slowly in your stomach, so you will feel full longer and eat less.
HTH!

I have found myself going right off cheese. Normally I love it, and it's on my low-carb list. The other day I went to grab on of those cheese-string things, and just about vomited. I can't stand even the smell of them anymore. Odd. Otherwise, I spent the first couple of weeks on Met drinking gallons of water. I was never a water drinker, but starting Met, I couldn't get enough. That seems to have tapered off a bit now. I've been very fortunate with SE, and the only thing I'm really noticing lately is that my sense of smell has become very sensitive. I don't know if I'm smelling things more, or if I'm simply smelling things more intensely. My morning coffee has been tasting really weird too. I'm just going to attribute everything to Met and/or my impending AF!

I am having the exact same SI. I eat tons of cottage cheese and have been craving chocolate. I'm thankful to not have any diarrhea problems (yet?). Today is day two of 1000mg. I did a week at 500.
My acupuncturist suggested I don't eat so many cold foods as my abdomen area felt like it needed warming up. Lentil soup has been great (not tomato based) and low-carb bread with almond butter.
Although I'm thrilled to not have GI issues, I did wake up feeling a little sick today. Like I'm about to get the flu....
Ah well, sure hope this stuff is working for us....
