not so new but need some advice

hey board,
i found out i had pcos when i was in college and never heard about it before then. i have almost every single symptom thats i've ever read about......i have lost 37 pounds and still going, i am on advamet for insulin resistance, and high blood pressure medicine, birth control and daily vitamins. im not yet married or looking to have kids anytime soon...though i want to have kids when i do get married...but should i be worrying about ovulating now or wait? what else can i do to be more proactive about this. sometimes the birth control works and sometimes it doesnt, ive had a few long lasting menstraul episodes this year. I feel like im missing something about this......

Hi, Caryn,
I started out on just the pill (Ovral) because several doctors didn't know what was wrong with me. My cycles were once a month on the pill, but when my period came, it was very heavy, and it only went away when I was a couple days into my new pack of pills. When I finally got to a doctor who diagnosed PCOS, he started me on metformin, and that is what seems to have really helped me. In my case, he had me stay on the met and the BCP for a few months, just to be sure things got regulated. Once they did, he let me go off the BCP and stay on the met (1500 mg/day). I conceived after 6 months of met only. I know I felt better knowing my body was beginning to work right even before I was ttc.
