Hi all. Excuse me if I sound like im ranting or anything but im driving myself crazy worrying about PCOS. Where do I begin?
Im 20 years old and I have always had irregular periods. Sometimes every 2 weeks and extremely heavy. I have been on and off various contraceptive pills. From the age of 17, I began to grow hair on my stomach and didnt really think about it much. Just assumed it was normal. Started off fair, but then started to get dark. I began shaving it everytime I had a bath and kept doing so. Then I noticed fuzzy hair on my upper lip and dark hairs under my chin/neck area. My genital hair was also getting out of control (sorry tmi) and I started getting dark hair growing at the tops of my thighs and in between my thigh area. I am also very dark at the tops of my thighs in between my legs. Im very brown there which is unusual seeing as I am extremely fair and sensitive skinned. Also hair seemed to be growing around my anus and on my bottom cheeks. My doctor has said I may have PCOS, but I need to get properly tested.
Basically, all this hair growth is taking over my life. I have to shave my face everyday and Im leaving behind really bad razor burn every time I do, and when I shave my bottom, and thighs I get a rash appear the day after. I spend ages in the bath trying to get rid of all the hair. Im also having problems TTC, it just never happens. Its so hard watching everyone around me have children and I cant. Im also heartbroken when my friends have abortions. I feel so selfish sometimes when they complain about being pregnant or having children. I just hate them for it.
Does this sound like PCOS? Or is there another condition with those symptoms. Im also overweight and suffer from depression and self harm. I dont know if that is relevant though.
Have you seen your doctor? You seem to have the relevant symptoms of PCOS, but I'm no doctor. Print out the stickies at the top of this forum and take them to your doctor. If he/she refuses to do anything (which could happen because lots of docs don't know about PCOS), just keep going to docs until you get the proper tests done.
Best wishes. If you do end up with a PCOS diagnosis, please join us on the boards; we'll be happy to assist and support you.

Those symptoms do sound like common PCOS symptoms. As the previous poster said, it's best to go to a knowledgeable doc and get tested. Make sure to get tested for Diabetes and Insulin Resistance, also. My levels were on the high normal side, but a few months of Met helped a bit on the hairgrowth. It's not dissappearing all together, but I'm shaving my feet less often.
Depression is also a symptom of PCOS, and there is a forum for that on here. Try the TTC board and Pregnancy boards to see what those ladies are doing or did to get pregnant.
I have all of your symptoms and I definately have PCOS. That's not to say it might not be another endocrine problem, but definately sounds like it to me. Mine started the same wasy as you. Light hair on my belly, then it turned dark, then a few hairs started pooping up on my chin. I'd always had abnormal periods, but stupidly (even though I was studying reproductive endocrinolgy at Uni (in reptiles!)) I never made the connection even though I was very intimate with all the hormones screwing up my body. I also have dark skin between my legs and xs hair on my upper thighs etc as you described. We could almost be two peas in a pod!
I am going to start TTC within the next year and I am worried I will have problems. I started charting my basal body temperature (BBT) to see if I was ovulating. You can check it out on the link below. My cycle is long, but it seems I am definately ovulating!!!! It has made me feel heaps better, even though my cycle is long and I may or may not ovulate consistently each 38 days. But it might be something you could give a go. Since you are TTC it would pinpoint your ovulation day and would tell you the best time of the month to DO THE DEED!! It's kept me entertained at the very least. Private message me if you would like some more info on that!
Your doc is definately right to have all the tests done to confirm PCOS though. It's just so overwhelming coping with this condition sometimes and waiting for results etc. I share your pain.

Hi & Welcome to Soul Cysters! This is a great site to be a part of. These women will answer your questions, and lift you up when you are feeling down. I was also wondering if you have been tested to see if you actually have PCOS or not? You do have the symptoms, but it could always be something else as well. Ask you Ob/gyn to do the blood work or whatever test it is that they do to make sure you have it, and then go from there. I wish you the best of luck.
