Hi there,
I have been on this site for a while now, I was convinced that I had some mild form of PCOS a while back but all tests came back with no indication of it at all. I am still very unsure of what to do because I know that there is something off with me and I don't know how much more I need to pursue this PCOS possiblity.
I had an ultrasound, which showed no cysts on my ovaries. I had my levels tested twice within 5 months (as I had just come off the pill a month before the first test) and my gynocologist showed me that they were all normal ( I had read up on the expected levels on this site prior to seeing the results)
Anyway, when I am off the pill, I have regular periods, with ovulation (pretty sure every month) and I have been able to get pregnant (within the last year) BUT when I am off the pill I get terrible cystic acne on my back which doesn't go away exept when I go back on the pill. I also have been getting laser treatments for my excess facial hair on my chin, but after a year of that, I still have a few patches of really dark hairs.
I guess that I am wondering if someone on here has any suggestions for me. My boyfriend thought that I was nuts when I thought I had PCOS so to pursue it after I got the results of 2 tests and an ultrasound might be a bit obsessive.... or maybe not? I really don't know what I should do.... does it sound like I might still have it or do I just have skin that is more receptive to androgens? My father has cystic acne so maybe it's just herriditary but as a 34 year old woman, it's not something that I want to have and it seriously affects my self esteem (along with the facial hair!)
Any ideas?
Did they do an internal ultrasound. I told my doctor I had it. They did one outside down there and it showed nothing. Years later still having problems. Another doctor did an internal one and they found them. By my experience and what I should have done is if something is not right then find another doctor who will find out what it is and if they don't then find another one. I should have. IF I had I wouldn't be as bad off as I am right now. It could be something different. You never know. But make sure they find out what.
welcome to sc id second that - and suggest you get a new dr! I personallly have to change gp to get any pcos help. What id suggest is to write down everything that you want to ask/say so you dont forget. Thats what i always do.
From what ive learnt here - our blood tests can read 'normal' (like mine do), but am an definately a pcos girl. Also, i dont have any cysts on my ovaries now, either.
eva
i to tested normal and had no cyst but all the symptoms so they had me test my blood sugers for a month and that along with all my symptoms led to the dx of pcos with ir. i would talk to an endo or even just anouther doc period and get a second oppinion
Thanks for the replies. I really only have the symptoms of acne and a bit of facial hair, no other symptoms really at all. I would like to go back to see another doctor, however I just moved to a place where I don't speak the language really well.....aughhhh...... so frustrating! Also, if I do not have any weight issues, IR, or problems with my periods, I'm guessing that the only ''treatment'' they would give me then is Birth Control, which I presently went back on to as I couldn't stand the acne anymore....
