I went to see my doctor last week, as I wanted more information about Metformin, I was also in alot of pain and my belly was very bloted and large. I was told By my DOCTOR that he no longer deals with womens problems! Can you belive that!!!!
If my Doctor will not help me who will?
I dont know what to do, feel as though I have been pushed aside, like it means nothing, I felt very husrt and unimportant.
Im 22 and feel like the future I want is no longer in reach!!
Also, is there anything I can do about my doctor, like report the fool? lol
I live in Birmingham, and would love to hear from women in birmingham! xx

Help you? this is the NHS we're talking about! They don't help anyone.
Yes i'm bitter, I just got back from an appointment with my own doctor who was about as useful as yours.
A GP should deal with ALL problems or refer you to someone who will. So march on back there and complain complain complain. I admit, I had a bit of a tantrum in the waiting room today... how embarrassing. Still, I was at the end of my tether.

Your Dr dealt with this very badly. What he should have said was "this isn't my forte do you mind if i ask you to see Dr xxxx instead?"
However I do think that his honesty is refreshing and because if it you won't be dealing with a Dr that is just going to fob you off. Go back and ask who does deal with "womens problems" and get an appointment and referred to a specialist if necessary
I hope you got sorted and good luck
For what it's worth the NHS isn't the best health system in the world but it's far from being the worst, like evey company it's got it's strengths and weaknesses and while i've had problems regarding PCOS and fertility in other areas it's been a life saver

welcome to sc sorry your dr wasnt much help. Ive been told before by a male gp to see female dr ...... instead. Perhaps thats what he meant, but it came out wrong?
i had to change gp surgery to get pcos help. Is that an option for you?? or else could you ring the surgery and ask them to recommend a female/or understanding gp at your present surgery??
i'm bitter too...when I asked my GP (her speciality is women's health) to prescribe me metformin (i have all the symptoms, alopecia, hair, cysts, very long periods etc though i wasnt diagnosed with it) she looked at me like i'm mad and said "metformin wont help you, this is a drug fo diabetics"...
pointy - i had to get given met from the endo first, and the the gp can do repeat prescriptions of met. Maybe it is the same where you are too??
Eva37, thanks for the info, but its seems to be the big problem to get to see endo...asked once for a referral, gp (another one) suggested that its better to be referred to gyno coz i'd be waiting for a endo for more than 6months..So i had to take what he offered.
I have had these pronlems in the past too. Doctors have shrugged, moaned, told me they don't know what PCOS is, told me I might be imagining things, given me incorrect advice (that could have seriously messed me up and caused me to go through loads of problems as a result), told me that I just have "women's problems" and should "grin and bear them".
I have come to the realisation that my gynae is only helpful and friendly when I see him at a private hospital and pay £90 for 15 minutes.
I have also realised that I have been the only person is this equation that has been actively searching for answers!
It is really frustrating at times.
At my doctor's surgery there is only one doctor whom I like. She happens to be (in my opinion) the least "academic" but she will listen, research and prescribe what I (yes ME!) believe will help me and my personal case, not what she thinks the NHS want her to prescribe. So that is nice. But people seem to like her so it's difficult to get and appointment!
I can really relate to this. I have now had to go private. It is expensive but I have made other cut backs in my life in order to afford is. The thing is that once you are with the right consultant it doesnt take you that long to get better. After my first
appointment I got met. By my second I had lost my first stone and was within healthy bmi. I also had clear skin and regula periods (all after just a few weeks). By my third I was put on clomid. So yea its cost me about £400 but I have lost weight, now ovulate and feel better than I have since I was 17 (am 31 now). To me its worth every penny and the consultant work with you and your budget. I just missed out going out, hair appointments, coffees out etc and have put that money towards my health and fertility instead. I know that if I need IVF the price will really increase and I dont kthat w how to afford it but Im hoping that I will not need too. PM me for more info
