 Not sure where to post this (regarding AN)
I wasn't sure where to post this, but I'm interested to see if any other cyster out there that has acanthosis nigricans has run across this...
First off, I have had pretty severe AN since I was 12 years old. Had it diagnosed by a dermatologist when I was 14. He had me try a few different lotions and stuff, but none of them helped. A year or two later (about 7-8 years ago), I got sick with a bad throat infection and was put on the antibiotic cephalexin. Around the time I was finishing taking up this med, my AN started flaking off majorly -- within a few days, my skin looked clear and normal again -- no more dark spots!
The next time I saw my dermatologist, I told him about my experience with cephalexin and he didn't really have an explanation. He wrote me a Rx for it, and I took it for about 40 days I think. It helped at first, but as soon as I didn't take it, AN would start coming back. Also, after a prolonged period of time, I think my body started getting used to it because it was not as effective after several weeks as it had been in the beginning.
Just wondering if anyone else had any experience with this. I wonder what it was about that particular antibiotic that made my AN go away?????
