I'm not ttc. My impression is that an RE would be better than a straight Endo for my PCOS (I dunno why. More sensitive to the female issues surrounding PCOS?)
My question is, does it really matter if you use a Reproductive Endocrinologist over an Endocrinologist? Are there insurance issues to consider? Would my IC be more inclined to deny claims if they're coming from an RE's office?
Whaddya y'all think?
Oh, and if you know of a good Dr. in Omaha, that would be awesome.
Oh, and did you all find success with your first RE/Endo generally, or do you recommend meeting with a few Dr.'s before making a decision on who to go with?
I see an endocrinologist, who sees a lot of patients with PCOS and diabetes, and have found her to be very good. Some RE's won't see patients who aren't TTC.

I have seen both and I am also not TTC. I asked my RE if she only treats TTC and she said she has paients as young as 12 so the answer was no.I wanted to know this because I felt the same way about ( The more sensitive issues surrounding PCOS) If you want to see an RE I would ask them 1st if they treat POCS without TTC and go form there. When I found out this I called the IC I have and asked if they would cover an RE I am covered and so far so good. Just a little info I thought you might find strange is that my RE used to practice in Omaha.
I hope this helps you a little and if you have more question please feel free to PM me.

Sometimes I think the RE's aren't that interested in treating the PCOS alone. They want to get you pregnant. One RE in our area (NE OH) said he wouldn't prescribe met unless you were TTC!
Regular endo's are aware of pcos - and you can always ask - and *may* be better at treating you because they don't care if you are TTC.
Good Luck!

My RE, while wonderful, refused to prescribe Met, too (I wasn't TTC). My OB-GYN did, though (thank God). I've done enough research that I request the tests I need when I think I need them, and she goes along with it!

I'm seeing an Endo and she's great! She explains everything and really takes time with me. She knows I'm TTC and discussed starting Met before I decided to TTC. The only way I would change is if things doesn't work out and she tells me to see a RE.
