Ladies I wanted to post this in my foolishness. I sold an item on ebay and accepted a moneyorder. I was scammed it was conterfeit. I am now out my item and out of $1400. They overpaid for it so I being honest sent them their extra money back. I thought I was safe by waiting 5 business days not knowing it takes a month to actually clear. Please if you get a money order make sure you see at the post office if it is real.
I never knew such a thing occured well now my mortgage payment and insurance bill are at jeopardy. I am not sure what to do about that. We are trying to get overtime but none avaliable. So dont be scammed.

I am so sorry! I dont know what i would do if we lost 1400.00. i cant imagine how scary that is. I cant believe the audacity of some people!!!!

I'm so sorry this happened to you  My sister and BIL were almost caught up in the same thing. They were going to buy a Bobcat skidloader and found a good deal on ebay. The guy was overseas and wanted to send them a money order for the shipping and they'd just add it to the price. It didn't make any sense at all. They watched the auction and a couple weeks later a feedback was left about the guy scamming the buyer. It sucks that innocent people lose out on big bucks this way. Did you report it to ebay? Do they cover money orders or just paypal?? How much did they overpay and how much was the money order for? I think (not 100% sure) that the max amount you can get a money order for is $1000.

Complain to Ebay immediately - they have a protection policy in place that might be able to help you. | |

Okay, first file a complaint with Ebay- buyer name, price, date. Then go to your bank and see what you can do about lodging a complaint against the maker of the MO.
Just a heads up, with checks and MO and cashier's checks, if you cash them and then deposit the cash, the maker of the check/mo/cc is responsible for the validity and funds to cash the item. If you simply deposit the item, you take on responsibility for it.

My Credit Union sent out a warning to everyone saying this had been happening a lot. I don't use Ebay, thank goodness. Im so sorry this happened to you!! I would complain to Ebay right NOW!

File a complaint with Ebay, ASAP. They have regulations in place that may or may not be able to help you. Good luck!

Out of curiosity, was this an overseas transaction? a lot of those scams originate in Nigeria.....they overpay and ask you to refund the difference etc. they may even say they have a friend in the US that will send you the money order.

I'm sorry... Not all buyers on ebay are crooks, I'm not!
I just saw something about fraud, and if someone overpays for an item, especially with a check, it's usually not koscher.
I only accept paypal when I sell stuff now. Or I sell it on Amazon, where the buyer can't get the item at all until his credit card is charged and goes through.

Well here is the thing about ebay the money orders and checks are not covered so my money is lost. Even Paypal is being scammed. I am not saying dont trust anyone just saying be careful. I posted this as a future deterant for everyone to know. So just be careful. I was told here are the "guidelines not to be ripped off".
1. only sell to buyers if the itm you are selling is over $50.00 to an ebayer with a score of 10 or higher.
2. dont except personl checks
3. Cashiers checks can be verified by your bank
4. any money orders take to the post office they can check it out
5. If a customer pays by paypal have a two week policy make sure it clears and the card they used is not stolen.....they need two solid weeks for that because they will charge it to your paypal account.
